Too Human no-show explained News

Xbox 360 News by Tom Bramwell

6 October, 2006

Silicon Knights president Dennis Dyack has explained why Too Human was absent from Microsoft's recent X06 showcase, despite having been around in playable form at E3 several months earlier.

Speaking on his blog, Dyack said the "decision to not show at X06 was made immediately after E3" - where the game met with a lukewarm reception.

"We made the decision to next show the game when we are ready and we knew that X06 would not be the right time. When we do decide to show the game, our goal is to give everyone a true impression of the game - one that includes story, audio, game play, artwork and technology."

Originally aimed at Christmas 2006, it's now unclear exactly when Too Human - the first in a trilogy - will actually be released, but Dyack is confident of its quality, adding that, "Things are going very well and Too Human is shaping up to be our best game to date."

Hmmm... it has all the signs of a troubled project. Hopefully I'm wrong.

It's been in deveopment for ten years, I'd say that's a pretty good indication of a troubled project. :)

But sounds like they're pulling themselves together, I appreciate their honesty. I have very high hopes for Too Human, it's better they keep it under wraps until it's ready for prime time.

Steroyd, you're such a pathetic little troll.

Good call Dyack because the E3 demo sucked. Especially the static camera.

@Steroyd: can't comment on Too Human cause I don't know if it will ever see the light, but Eternal Darkness was awesome. Bad graphics, but great history and atmosphere, and if you played it always on the verge of madness it is one of the best game to capture that elusive lovecraftian spirit.
And about MGS on GC... it was just a conversion, a well made conversion, but nothing more.

Of course i'm a troll i tend to judge upcoming games from said companies based on their previous reputation (hence why i'm looking forward to Resistance because of Inosmiac) it's a curse i have, but i didn't think Eternal Darkness was all that good, and the MGS1 remake was okay but seeing how I never played through the first one from start to finish properly, i dunno i was expecting a little something more than MGS2 in MGS1's clothing so it was a little disapointing in that sense (Psycho Mantis was cool though).

Anyway i'm one of those people who gave a lukewarm reception to Too Human at E3, i've heard it's not even the same concept today that Too Human started out 10 years ago.

Eternal Darkness is more or less regarded as a bit of a sleeper-classic no?

I actually thought the graphics in ET had some real standout moments.

This still has promise I think if you like this sort of game (e.g. KOTOR etc), personally it's not my bag.

To me, this title has always looked shit.

TBH I haden't even noticed it's so-called conspicous absence.

Much like Half-Life 2: Whole-Life, then?

@Steroyd

Man, I thought you were just trolling, but seems like you honestly don't like Eternal Darkness. To each its own, but generally it's regarded as one of the best games of this past generation.

They also made the first Legacy of Kain game. Unlike the rest of the series, which was just a (mild) commercial success, the first game was also praised by critics.

hmm... didn't know they made Legacy of Kain might give them some rep points for that then.

ET was good in some areas i liked what happened to you when you're insanity goes (i s***ed some bricks when it was "deleting" my save file o_O ) but level progression was tedious to the point that I'd get so far in the game.... then stop playing get lost from where i was, start game from beginning get a little bit further than my original save stop playing it again and so on and so forth kinda what happens to me in some RPG's.

i played eternal darkness again the other day, even though i finished it 3 times (on each colour) the mansion is STILL very unsettling with the various sanity effects (remeber the bloody bath thing?)

better than any resident evil IMO (except 4),however the lengthy runs trough the underground city were a bit dull

Haters need to recognize: Eternal Darkness = Classic of the survival horror genre on par with Alone in the Dark (ESPECIALLY the "tedious" level progression that had you finding pieces of a dark past that you then played through, eschewing the play-as-one-character-the-entire-game mechanic and, I think, really making the game a unique, lovingly crafted lovecraftian experience.

Steroyd is fos.

EDIT: I'm so cool my parentheses close themselves.
