Castle Wolfenstein for PC too

But 360 leads the way.

As we speculated on the night of X05 (us being clever-boots and all), id and Raven Software's new Castle Wolfenstein title will lead on Xbox 360 but is definitely also coming to PC.

Activision, which is the licensed worldwide distributor, whatever that means, says the game will thrust us deep into the blackened heart of Nazi Germany (etc.) where experiments with technology and the supernatural threaten to fill levels with zombies and other horrible things (well, they said "turn the tide of World War II", but we know what they really meant).

We're told to expect "revolutionary new graphics technology targeted specifically at next generation hardware" - perhaps some relation to the MegaTexture stuff that Splash Damage is using in another game id Software's farmed out, PC multiplayer shooter Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.

It's all speculation for now though. None of the three companies has suggested when we can expect to see it either, although the bods at Microsoft would be keen for us to point out that it will lead on Xbox 360. This must be what they meant by re-energising the PC - now the ports are only out on one other platform beforehand.

Sorry - that was harsh. Frankly, everyone should be excited about a new Wolfenstein game, whatever the platform, because you were all horrible to the last one even though it was really good. Just like when you hated the Dreamcast. Scum! All of you!

Nazis. World War 2. FPS. Zombies. A sequel of a sequel of a sequel of ... etc.

    ...

Excuse me while I get terribly excited! :-/

I really enjoyed Return to Castle Wolfenstein on the Xbox.

The best thing about the game is the 'secrets' - finding those gold nuggets and treasure that were hidden rather well throughout various levels in the campaign mode was wonderful.

Please iD studios - make the levels sensible and easy to navigate - I got lost more times in that game and not knowing clearly where to go next than any other FPS in my life.

    Can't wait either way!

Yeah RtcW was great on XBox. It played well and it was one of the first really good Live games that everybody seemed to play (people are still playing BTW). Looking forward to the new one.
  • Cloudane #4 6 years ago

Strange thing is - I never actually played this game on Xbox Live and I still got a great deal of entertainment out of the campaign mode and via Co-Op with a few mates.
  • Putty-Man #5 6 years ago

Yeah, Shinji - what do you know? It's not like you run a games-industry news web site or anything, is it? Arnie created a free forum, you know! He's almost Bill Gates!

"why should they lead develop on an inferior machine EG?" - Yes, i wonder why they develop for consoles. Maybe its just the shitload of cash. [...]
  • #13 6 years ago

    oh is shitnij actually staff?

that's awesome, no wonder he had the bag of cash pic ready, it was probably sent to him by sony!

unless the bag of cash IS really from sony, and shinji, you posted it as an explanation as to why you left an important fact out of the story? ;)

Yeh - and that's it - only reason a dev may prefer a console is down to the ££ that comes from what that entails (exclusive rights, special bits for the console version only, etc).

And that's fair enough - but so long as ppl aren't assuming ludicrous notions that dev's may prefer a console because it's "better" than a PC. AFAIK, no console of the day is *every* better than a PC of the day...

I loved RTCW especially the Nazi chicks!... quality game. In addition RTCW is still one of the best multiplayer games on the PC IMO.

Looking forward to the next one.
  • AHiFi #19 6 years ago

Gitsome - I most certainly agree with loving the Nazi chicks. Shame I had to sten them.
  • Cloudane #20 6 years ago

    Heh.

I just went back to RtCW during my lunch (I have a day off school - woohoo!) and found the graphics less than pleasing but when I starting to mow down the Nazi's - it got a whole lot better, plus I found a secret gold nugget - again.

    Love the game.

    omg, such stupid comebacks. ;|

but still, i'm interested in seeing how this ends up. I was in the same boat with cloud - never played it online but still thoroughly enjoyed the single player campaign. I just hope the inner workings of the story isn't *too* similar to the last one.

Yeah, right, PC is superior, just because a good gaming rig costs 10 times a console. Also, because a $600 card comes out every other month to rip off the hapless consumer. Yeah yeah PC will be superior even if the 360 is coming out with three processing cores and a video card the likes of which a PC has never seen.

Obvoiusly PC is superior - see how many billions of games comes out for it. And yes, that is why no PC driving game looks as good as some developed for the consoles. Yeah yeah, you know, 1600x1200 resolution negates the need for any creativity, or optimization!

By the way sorry for the rant - I am a PC gamer too - it is just that statements like "PC' will always be better than a console' are loads of bollock to me. Platforms are NOT defined by raw power alone, but I guess for some people staring at the latest rip off video card is better than sex.
