Dark and Light opens up

MMO now yours to explore.

Farlan Entertainment has announced the launch of Dark and Light, officially billed as "The Largest MMORPG You've Ever Seen."

Well, it is 40,000 square kilometres in size, and there are 13 different kingdoms to wander around. You can get about using your very own dragon, glider or parachute, all without having to deal with any pesky loading times. There are lots of cities to visit, loads of fortresses to explore and probably a huge amount of wizards and that, since it's all wrapped up in a fantasy setting.

There's a subscription fee of $14.99 per month - or you can opt to pay as you go. Those who registered for the advance Pioneer program will get some extra skills and privileges, plus two months of free play.

More details are available from the Dark and Light website.

The freeplay option sounds cool too - get em addicted and then charge ;)

As nice as this all seems, I'd recommend some thorough background reading when it comes to Dark & Light--if only for the unscriptable humour heaped around this pitiful "game".

RUN! RUNAWAY! HIDE! DON'T BUY IT!

sorry for the caps but I was following this game since before the beta, I was a pioneer key chump. Paid to play in the beta and from what I've heard it's just as bad now.

Broken game still nowhere near completion, check their own forums for the amount of flack they are taking.

I wasted money on it, would hate anyone else to make that mistake.

Darkedge, have a look at some screenshots, it's not just the GW website these guys have been looking at. Even the game's fonts are the same! How have they not been sued yet?
Psi, has nobody explained why it looks so similar to Guild Wars?

Having only just found out about this game (and it's truly torrid development history) earlier this month, I think it's still pretty safe to summise with, "blatant plagiarism by a bunch of lying muppets."

Graphically, the game is reported as being foul by so many testers, even when run on very high-end kit. It's also so riddled with bugs as to be unplayable in its current state; beta testers and early (paying) adopters were given the honourary mantle of 'pioneer' (Psi?) and each given a dragon. These dragons are available in-game, but they are - seemingly to all intents and purposes - unridable because of the bugs. I read a report from one player who, after finally managing to find where his dragon was (buried somewhere in his inventory!), tried riding the beast but was inexplicably flung 500km or so from where he'd made the attempt. The dragon also teleported it seems, to the top of an insurmountable hill, but was still in plain sight of the unfortunate player--once he'd back tracked on foot to where he'd started...

Read the link I posted earlier for more dirt--it's all there in the comments.

erm yeah i didn't think the gfx were that guildwarsy. but this game at the point of the pioneer key thing was the biggest hyped mmorpg game on the net at the time.

the pioneer keys sold out in a matter of hours, the free beta keys went in 7 seconds....

7 seconds and there were thousands of them. eBay was flooded with accounts being sold at the time for over a hundred quid.

and then the beta actually started lol, dear me that was a terrible few days. i have to say mind it was quite funny with friends when we managed to get into the game, some dev must have either had a flash of comedy genius or was just plain daft..

me and 4 other mates get into the game "quick meet up! check overhead map, erm im next to a hill right at the starter looks like a cock! meet at the foreskin!!"
