Rockstar's first next-gen game
Not what you might be expecting.
Rockstar has announced its first next-generation game - and if you're expecting yet another gritty action-adventure featuring lots of guns, gangsters and dead prostitutes, you're in for a shock.
Turns out Rockstar is in fact developing an Xbox 360 game titled Table Tennis - and it's all about, well, table tennis, as you can see from the screenshots.
"Our goal was to create a game that is perfectly addictive in its focused simplicity, a game that showcases the true possibilities of a next gen experience, not just in looks but in feel and pace," said Rockstar founder Sam Houser.
"We wanted to use the power of the new hardware and the resolution of new televisions to give the game an immediacy, an intensity and a sense of physicality and reality, resulting in a purer, more visceral experience that simply was not possible previously."
And that's not all. "It is a distillation of game design philosophy, focusing on removing the traditional areas of compromise inherent in managing size and scope and concentrating the hardware's entire power on one activity, with the aim of doing that better than it's ever been done before." We think he means it'll be better than Pong.
Table Tennis is currently in development at Rockstar's San Diego studio and is out on May 26th, priced at £29.99.

however, why put the emphasis on graphics, anime and physics to 'reach new level of gameplay', when they could malke it on Revo and put everything on the control. it's not logical

If you go to that extent you may as well just play table tennis in real life? I'm still to be convinced that the rev controller will be suitable enough to replicate accurate play of something like table tennis.

On the game, well, I always found ping pong to be fun so it could be good. A games a game is what I always say. No point in confining yourself to genres (*looks at certain people*).

Why the negativity? "oh its not got guns and tits so its gonna be rubbish" is the opinion I've heard a few times already, its that sort of thinking that pushes genuinely exciting and original titles to one side.

COME ON GUYS, i know you've got it in you to make the best game ever...and it wont be gta.

This looks interesting. Since i don't think they can really hope to sell it on just having fancy graphics or bling or stuff, they'll be forced to focus on the core of the game and maybe something special will happen. What they learn about character animation/control will be useful for GTA.
That said, it probably won't beat real table tennis.

In any case, Rockstar? I bet the game will feature all sorts of shady, sleazy characters and there will be a lot of under-the-table dealing.
By the way, head to www.teagames.com for a susprisingly good TT game and of course, a laugh.

Rockstar has MANY studios, which tend to do ports of GTA to earn their stripes, and then might get to do something else. Not sure about San Diego's path specifically. Take Two had the great idea of naming ALL of their studios "Rockstar: Location" to bleed the perception of success created by GTA into other games. And this is where it backfires - when one of the studio goes "off message".
Not that I particularly mind. I like pingpong!
Bah. It's a Rockstar thread. Why do I even think I can take on the noise to signal ratio?
