Forza E3 demo in-game
MGS racing for the line.
Microsoft's Forza Motorsport 2 development team is gearing up for the game's Christmas release on Xbox 360 - and the game's website reveals that much of what we saw at E3, contrary to public perception, was in fact using in-game assets.
Speaking in a community update, MGS' John Wendl says the E3 trailer used "actual 'in-game' assets and combined them with visual effects, such as motion blur, global illumination and high dynamic range lighting, that are either already working in the build or are very close to completion."
"We're really taking full advantage of the immense graphics horsepower of the Xbox 360 to do some incredible things visually. Of course we're 60fps at 720p, as you mention, but we're also adding effects and features such as 4X anti-aliasing (no jaggies!), motion blur, high dynamic range lighting, global illumination and per-pixel car reflections updated at full frame rate," he added.
The game's community website has seen quite a few updates in recent weeks, from which we've also learned that the game will include 60 tracks across 18 environments and 13 real-world licensed circuits, with 300 cars from more than 50 manufacturers including all the big ones (Ferrari, Porsche, Lambo, etc.).
Plus, of course, there'll be more customisation options than ever before - and support for the Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel Microsoft announced at E3 along with a couple of screenshots.

No way. If it looks *that* good when it comes out, I'll eat my component cable.

How about "features" such as a more realistic number of cars per race, as in CodeMaster's Toca/DTM/V8/Pro Race Driver series. Especially when you have "Motorsport" in the title.
(I did like the original game, but would happily trade its detailed handling model and "learning AI" for Toca Race Driver's 20 car cup races).

well, i know i wouldnt.

Eek. Instead of ruining Forza by turning it into Toca, how about just playing Toca if that's what you're after?? The handling and AI are two of the very best things about Forza!

Motion blur simulates what looking at TV footage is like, but we are supposed to be in the game world, and in real life (I think) motion blur doesn't exist.
Hope there's an option to switch off motion blur.

In Test Drive Unlimited when you are driving around in car and do a hard turn it uses a really subtle motion blur effect that looks just like those screenshots.
Also PDZ does it if you turn up your horizontal sensitivity and turn quickly - it is a very realistic effect. Also changing this setting makes a HUGE difference to how this game plays.

I wouldn't. Both features were part of what made forza great.

Of course, the blur is deliberately exaggerated in Burnout Revenge and I'd be annoyed if it was like that in Forza Motorsport 2 as it would spoil the realism.
Also I'd hope that FM2 supports 16 cars per race instead of just 8 otherwise it'll be disappointing. I'd rather have that then motion-blur to be honest.

I would!

Although I hope they get rid of that awful 'elo' ranking system... I think they'll have to use the 'TrueSkill' ranking system, the same as all 360 games (am I right?).
@Darren
I've read that the numbers of cars per race is going to be 12, not quite the 16 your after, but should be sufficient enough. Don't know what the chances of pushing that number up before release (remote I would think).
@BigHairyBear
I would too! cockpit view in Forza woulld be perfect. But like you said, doing it for 300 cars? don't think it'll happen, damn shame.

Hundreds of thousands of credits per rank? Takes 5 to get new races? Piss off.

Playing Forza had to be one of the most boring experiences I have had in gaming. I want to like Forza, just as I loved GrannyTourismo up until GT4 which just compounded my boredom for this genre.
And why are people so excited about the graphics? I normally play using a bonnet or bumper cam and when you've seen one race track you've seen them all.
If they want to push the graphics they need to lock off the frame rate at 60 or 30 and work on the important stuff like damage models, dust/smoke/gravel, creating interesting tracks that are fun and challenging to drive - not motion blur and HDR.
And to suggets the AI in Forza was good... well words fail me - the best I can say is, it wasn't anywhere near as bad as the GT series!
