Rainbow Six Vegas next-gen only

Current-gen out of luck.

Ubisoft's next Rainbow Six title, Vegas, isn't going to appear on current-generation console formats after all, according to the publisher.

In its E3 line-up press release this week, Ubisoft listed Vegas for PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles only - and apparently that's now the party line, with a spokesperson telling GameSpot, "All development has been shifted to next-gen platforms".

Whether that means the proposed PC version is off the table too remains to be seen, but, on the plus side, opting for next-gen consoles as target platforms ought to mean a higher base level of visual quality.

For more on Vegas, check out our previous coverage. Plus, of course, it'll be at E3.

A very, very good thing. And first \o/

I don't know - the whole premise of this game is sounding alarmingly similar to Bizarre's proposed shooter, The Club. Obviously no one is saying the games are identical, but both have gambling and firefights.

Good News for those who can afford the new consoles and bad news for those who cant but I think this would make the game better and live up to the name of the Rainbow franchise (Lockdown excluded)

Does this mean there will be fewer "dumbed down" console ports to the PC in future?
    Could be good.

Developed specifically for the 'next gen' machines can only be a good thing - no need for them to compromise on detail or programming in order to accomodate the less powerful machines. Porting from one equal format to another is one thing - but expecting people to shell out for titles which effectively play the same (or at least are very similar) to the 'previous gen' versions is out of order. I bought a 'next gen' machine and therefore want to buy games that are specifically designed to play on that machine or it's equivalent. If I wanted 'last gen' games with better grpahics, I would have hooked my old xbox up to my PC monitor for a lot less than it cost me to buy a 360 - and no, I didn't buy it at an inflated price on ebay. Pre-ordered at the normal cost through GAME.

    * Disclaimer - I use the ' ' around the terms next and last gen because I don't wish to be misinterpreted. To me, next gen purely denotes a more powerful machine with newer architecture - not a sentient machine like HAL!

A Tactical 3D Shooter not on the PC? That would be insane.

But, i guess there's more competetion on the PC for that.

And a port of the consol version is not even worth it.

    @smoison

porting could be done properly if developers spend enought ime doing it right.
  • Talha #11 6 years ago

@smoison : I don't think drawing such conclusions, without seeing the console game (let alone the PC version), is very objective. There's always a chance of such things turning out well.

The more next-gen only titles the better. The less 'polished' version of existing games for £15 the better, imho.

"porting could be done properly if developers spend enought ime doing it right"

Everything can be done right given enough time. But time is finite and so devs (if they are doing it right) work to produce the best result in the time that they do have. Its not about choosing to spend the time...

Rainbow Six Vegas - sounds like the installment in the series where the team takes a gambling and hookers holiday...

Great to see this is next-gen only less chance of getting a shoddy port of a current gen game.

So Wii is out of luck too.

Good news, but won't matter if they make it shite like Lockdown. Make it more like Rainbow Six 3 again ffs.

So is smoison an anagram of 'pc' and 'ivory tower'?
