Tomb Raider demo on Live

Plus themes and pics.

Eidos has released a playable demo of Tomb Raider: Legend over Xbox 360 Marketplace to go with the PC one released earlier this week.

There's also an exclusive trailer and various themes to customise your box, with a selection of picture packs of Lara and, inevitably, Mrs. Real Lara Croft Karima Adebibe.

Legend's due out on PC, PS2, Xbox and Xbox 360 this Friday. Eidos has also announced GameCube and PSP versions in development.

maybe i'm blind but i dont see it ... and i've just looked :(
  • SimonM7 #2 6 years ago

It's not there, that's why. I dunno why they bother announcing stuff like this before it's up proper. The only demo that was out on time was... Well The Outfit I think.
  • Furbs #3 6 years ago

Yeah you might wanna change the story slightly Tom. Despite Eidos' press release yesterday, it was another demo no show :(

Theres a trailer, but thats it so far.
  • specimen #4 6 years ago

you'd think they'd actually wait till they'd seen it before posting this up.
  • Universal_Hamster #5 6 years ago

Way to not research your stories at all EG!
There seems to be a patern emerging with the XBL demos. They all get released about four days later than they are meant to be.

    >Way to not research your stories at all EG!

Oh for gawds sakes, give em a break.

All you ever see on these boards recently is people either bitching at EG for review scores, posting news late, or (now) posting news early!!

Either that, or bitching at me for being a fanboy of whichever company im defending at the moment!
  • Furbs #7 6 years ago

Well to be fair, all they had to do was look at any gaming website and the comments section. Maybe even their own? :p

MajorNelson is always the best place to check a story about something on Live.
  • Ceatlan #8 6 years ago

Can anyone tell me where you actually use the themes ?

I can't find anywhere on the dashboard where you can select to use them.

I was hoping there'd be a demo, I'll download it as soon as its actually up.
  • Mildew #9 6 years ago

    @Ceatlan

Push the Xbox button and then select Personal Settings

"All you ever see on these boards recently is people either bitching at EG for review scores, posting news late, or (now) posting news early!! "

Actually, a more reliable occurrance is to hear people complain about people complaining...
  • optimusprym8 #12 6 years ago

I'm still waiting for the RR6 demo that's *apparently* available
  • Pac #13 6 years ago

Would like to see the demo as what I have seen so far looks pretty good.

However I was expecting to see much higher scores from official Xbox and PS2 mags which have given it roughly 8/10.

Will it tear me away from Oblivion - doubtful!

Also, would it not be a good idea to get these demos up earlier - the game is out in a couple of days?
  • Mildew #14 6 years ago

If the game is any good then it would be good to get the demo out ealier in order to boost sales (and confidence!) going by some of the previous incarnations of Tomb Raider.

Saying that if the game sucks then there's no rush in getting out the demo - just let people get swayed by the hype first and buy the game in their droves. Or just try out the PC demo.
  • sdvksbhv #15 6 years ago

The 360 version of the game is sadly not out for quite a while yet Pac. I think the current estimate is the beggining of July!

I thought it had been announced for April 11th?

    EDIT: The 7th.

OK i may have just been dreaming actually. I was sure the 360 and PSP versions were coming out a number of weeks later? Play seem to have it in stock now so you might be right.

    Soz.
  • Darren #18 6 years ago

The 360 version is definitely out on Friday because I've just checked my Gameplay.com pre-order and it's being picked for despatch today so I should have it tomorrow.
  • paulf #19 6 years ago

I preordered the 360 version on the strength of the pc demo, looks lots of fun to me
  • Talha #20 6 years ago

Guys, just get the PC demo. It is up on Gamespot.
  • Furbs #21 6 years ago

Does it work on the 360 then? :)
  • Beano #22 6 years ago

    Play.com has the Xbox 360 version in-stock so I guess it's out :)
  • Talha #23 6 years ago

@Furbs: Sure, they also have a PC emulator for X360 up on their site! ;-)
  • thegamesthething #24 6 years ago

I dunno smelly, can you 'post news early'? If the beeb ran a story about the death of Prince Philip, and then when it was pointed out he was still alive they said 'well he'll be dead sooner or later', would that be an early news story, or just cobblers?

Anyway, it's still not up, though presumably this news story edges closer to being accurate every second that goes by :)

  • OnlyMe #25 6 years ago

X360 version is definately out on thursday. I held it in my hand at a local gamestore as early as monday - but they won't sell it until tomorrow.
  • coojam #26 6 years ago

Then they've given you a dummy box, as I work in a game store, and its not out on Friday I assure you.
  • coojam #27 6 years ago

Or Thursday...games never come out on Thursdays.
  • Pac #28 6 years ago

All the online retailers and games press say its out on the Xbox 360 on Friday 7 April.

However it's always possible that the 360 version has been delayed.

Coojam - do you know something we don't?
  • Furbs #29 6 years ago

The 360 version is out on Friday. Peoples web orders from Game and Gameplay have started shipping.
  • Pac #30 6 years ago

Furbs - any idea when the playable demo will be on live?

My PC can't hack it these days I'm afraid.
  • Furbs #31 6 years ago

The magic 8 ball says "maybe".

But then its always been shit.
  • Darren #32 6 years ago

The 360 version is, I repeat, IS out this week... not only is my order being despatched today but someone I know of with the Gamer tag of James 360 is playing the 360 version right now because he got his copy early.

  • Pac #33 6 years ago

I think we have pretty much established that it's definitely out on Friday for the 360.

It will arrive saying "rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated"

Still no demo on live yet though - just the trailers.

    /Boo hoo.
  • OnlyMe #34 6 years ago

I can assure you it wasn't a dummy box, they don't keep dummy boxes behind the counter and shrinkwrapped. Besides, this particular store doesn't even use dummy boxes.

Only thing I didn't check was if the disc was in it, but then I don't think the people behind the counter would appreciate breaking the warrant seal to see if there's a disc in the box (which it obviously should be).

I'm not stupid, I can tell the difference between a dummy box and an actual box.
  • coojam #35 6 years ago

Actually I may be wrong, I won't say anything til I see it in-store, but I coulda swore we'd been told there was gonna be a small delay on it.

It's the same tactic I go by for PS3 lol - believe it when I see it.
  • Furbs #36 6 years ago

coojam, what store do you work for? Just so I can avoid it...
  • ginger2481 #37 6 years ago

Yep can confirm that Play has sent out my copy so I guess the 360 version is set for fri
  • I_Have_The_Power #38 6 years ago

so can anyone confirm if the demo is there now then?

Ive played a PC and PS2 demo - seeing this on the 360 will be the decider for me :)
  • NthSimulachum #39 6 years ago

"I would like to complain about people who complain about people who are complaining. Something should be done about them. *16 ton weight*"

Seriously, and not blatantly-stealing-Pythony, it would be nice if the news story was in the right tense. However, the horse armour debacle requires more attention I feel.

  • thegamesthething #41 6 years ago

  • Pac #42 6 years ago

That's it. I've given up on it now.

I would suggest they set up an alert that would warn you mid game (or perhaps to your mobile phone) that the demo you were interested in was now live.

However I fear it might open the floodgates to a whole world of unrequested shite.
  • Stormflood_UK #43 6 years ago

Just 480/720p trailers. Maybe they're uploading it with a 56k modem?

'James 360' does indeed have the 360 version, lucky begger.
  • MARKIV #44 6 years ago

To the guy far above about the Ridge Racer demo. It is available, however only to USA users. However you can get it in the UK if you follow this slightly unhonest guide ( well depending on which country you live in ).

    http://www.g amersreports.com/article/19/

I've just checked it for the Tomb Raider demo, alas it's not available that side of the pond either..

Its up now, on the "Irish" live anyway - which I presume is the same as the UK's

its up there now, downloading it at this very moment
  • BartonFink #47 6 years ago

Yup according to the forum it went up around 8pm
  • coojam #48 6 years ago

I apologise Furbs, I'll keep my comments to myself in the future. I was merely trying to inform and help and was man enough to admit I was wrong. You throw it in my face with a rude, personal comment.

  • coojam #51 6 years ago

lol right I see what you're saying now. Still, it seemed a little personal before.
  • S.J.Rogers #52 6 years ago

I think i am going to cry, far to much love in the room..!
  • Agent_Llama #53 6 years ago

So what's the 360 version like? Can't get on Live at the mo. Weighing up whether or not to buy TR tomorrow... It *looks* good...
  • I_Have_The_Power #54 6 years ago

well ive played PC, PS2 and 360 versions of the demo, and its the 360 version for me Llama - it really does look lovely on 360! :)

  • Pac #55 6 years ago

    Completed the demo now.

Pretty good I thought. might buy it.
  • Pac #56 6 years ago

Did anyone else get stuck on the last room for a couple of minutes?

    God, I'm a f**kwhit sometimes.
  • Jonathan_Fakenham #57 6 years ago

Got stuck in the last room for 10 minutes or so, pushing the blocks back and forth again and again, not knowing what to do. Then, I saw something, a possible solution, and went forth, starting to laugh hysterically when the block was launched right up into the air. That could never have been done in an old Tomb Raider game. It totally warped my mind. Great too, how you could play with the physics, and spin the blocks in every direction. I got squashed once, by the moving walls earlier in the demo, when they squeezed and spun the block into parallel position, trapping me off the side.

So it's not "good old Tomb Raider", but a "good new" Tomb Raider.

Great fun. Definately more fast paced and worked out. I will be grabbing this one..

The thing that impressed me most was the controls.

Sure, there are still some camera issues there but on the whole it feels pretty solid.

It's probably one of the hardest thing to get right in this type of game.
