FFXIII video to show at TGS

Squenix also promises some new game announcements.

The PlayStation 3's Final Fantasy XIII will be shown off in video form at the Tokyo Game Show, and Square Enix plans to announce some new games too.

Although our friendly Squenix spokesperson was uncertain whether the FF trailers - covering both XIII and its pal XIII Versus - would be brand new, he reckons they probably are. It would be rather odd to turn up in Tokyo without something new to show, obviously. Like those new games, about which, obviously, nothing is being said yet.

The rest of the Squenix schedule is pretty predictable, but there will be a few things to watch out for. Dawn of Mana - or Seiken Densetsu IV - is the long awaited PS2 update to the Mana series, and will be playable at the show. As will Project Sylpheed on the Xbox 360.

The only playable FF mentioned is III on the DS, and XI on the PS2 and 30, but we're told to keep an eye out for Chocobo Magic Picture Book and Dragon Quest Monsters Joker on the DS. The former "could surprise some people" apparently.

There'll also be various videos - FFV Advance and FFVI Advance on GBA, and FFVIII: Crisis Core for PSP - and a host of mobile titles. Those being Dragon Quest Monsters, Dragon Quest: Fushigi na Dungeon, Front Mission 2089, Pokemate and Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden (Final Fantasy I to you and I).

We'll be at TGS of course, and we might write about some games while we're there. You never know.

Sylpheed is video only according to the Japanese news sites, what's your source for it being playable? The Magic Box?
  • Hughes. #2 6 years ago

Crisis Core needage, still only videos? GAHH!
  • Steroyd #3 6 years ago

Why the hell is FFXI playable for PS2 and Xbox 360?
  • Blerk #4 6 years ago

Uh... because it's out? Be a bit harsh to only show a video of a game that's been on the shelves for ages, no? Or did I misunderstand the rant? :-)
  • JediMasterMalik #5 6 years ago

I'm not sure about Sylpheed, if Dirge of Cerberus is anything to go buy, it won't be a great game.

They really need to stick to RPG's and the like.

    @ blerk

    Maybe i didn't rant properly....

    Take 2

Why the hell is a 5 year old PS2 game ported to the Xbox 360 which has been out for nearly a year being shown at TGS, why not show Papparappa the Rappa or the PSone version of FFVII while they're at it. :-s

    Ah, I see. :-)

Well, to most people in Japan the 360 version will be new. Given that only four of them know what a 360 is. :-D
  • rinoaMW #8 6 years ago

Wow four of them? They’ve certainly doubled their user base, haven't they? :p
  • kissthestick #9 6 years ago

Square Enix: More CGI Movies FTW!!!11111
  • Fubdub #10 6 years ago

Maybe there is some new expansion or some shit like that.
  • TripleSeven #11 6 years ago

Announce Final Fantasy 7 for PlayStation3, come on.
  • Blerk #12 6 years ago

If it's coming I'm sure we'll hear about it at TGS. But I don't think it is. :-)
  • ManicDrunkMonk #13 6 years ago

    They still make these games?
  • Nobuo #14 6 years ago

I'm sure you mean Xbox 360, not Xbox 30; FFVII: Crisis Core, not FFVIII: Crisis Core; and I'm 99% sure they won't be showing FFXI on the PS2... FFXII perhaps?
  • PinkSpider #15 6 years ago

    'They still make these games?'

Yes, because they sell AMAZINGLY well in Japan and pretty well in the west. They would be crazy not to (And I bloody hope they dont stop).
  • ilmaestro #16 6 years ago

Well, the Squenix site confirms that Sylpheed will be video only. How about giving me a job as a reporter of Japanese news? Please? Does anyone connected with EG actually read the comments? Wibble.
  • Galvanizer #17 6 years ago

Rumoured that there will be FINAL FANTASY XIII DS! Can't wait! :-D
  • Steroyd #18 6 years ago

correction... a version of FFXIII for the DS, some spin off like FFXIII vs.
  • CitizenGeek #19 6 years ago

Yeah, thats like the best rumor EVAR! The runmor I heard states that it'll be an SRPG based off of FFXIII for DS! Sqeenix better deliver!
  • Sorb #20 6 years ago

About friggin time to announce FFXII for Europe too!
  • NegativeZero #21 6 years ago

I thought Dawn of Mana was a DS title?

EDIT: And wouldn't it be Seiken Densetsu V, not IV? I seem to recall IV being out years ago on PSX.

    @Steroyd

Because FFXI as opposed to FFVII and Parappa is a revenue earner for SquareEnix. It's a supported product actively pitching for new subscribers hence it earns signage at TGS. :)
  • rinoaMW #23 6 years ago

    @NegativeZero

DoM is indeed a Ps2 game - but you're right, there is supposed to be another Mana game on the DS, something like Land of Mana?

The one you're thinking about on the PS1 was Legend of Mana - but i don't know how it ties into thier numbering system...

EDIT: ah its not "Land of Mana" on the DS - its "Children of Mana" . Heh :)

    GAME OVER

The Xbox 360 is the fastest selling system ever in 40 of the 41 countries it has been released in. The Xbox 360 completely dominated the August, 2006, European Game Convention in Leipzig, Germany. Especially with the announcement that the Xbox 360 will be the ONLY place where European gamers will be able to play a next-generation Soccer game for TWELVE MONTHS that runs in high-definition video with true 5.1 digital sound!!!

The fact that Sony is going to miss the Christmas season in Europe is INCREDIBLE!!! Sony JUST DROPPED THE BALL; they JUST LOST!!!

By the way, Sony knew this was going to happen, because there were Japanese analysts saying this all along. YET ANOTHER SONY LIE!!!

Mitsubishi Securities recently announced that the Playstation 3 would only sell 3 million systems by March of 2007, due to production problems. The fact that Sony is STUPID enough to try and lie again, by saying that they will still reach their goal of 6 million by March of 2007, even though the system won't be released until then in Europe, and the distribution to North America and Japan has been reduced by 50% is just plain STUPID... How STUPID does Sony think people are???

We also learned that High-Definition cables will NOT be included in ANY version of the Playstation 3!!! The Xbox 360 Premium comes with a set of cables that can be used as both High-Definition Cables and standard-definition cables. This means that consumers will need to spend ANOTHER $40 for a set of PS3 Component Cables or another $99 for an HDMI cable. The Playstation 3 will actually cost consumers up to $700!!! MY GOD, the Playstation 3 is TERRIBLE!!!

TWO THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT CHEAP Ebay Cables:

    1. Ebay Cables may appear cheap at first, but if you look at the Shipping Cost, you will see that something that should cost about $3 is suddenly listed with a HUGE shipping cost of over $35. In other words, they make you think you did a good job bidding or purchasing the product, but they make ALL their money on the HUGE Shipping Costs!!!

    2. Ebay Cables that are cheap like that are VERY low quality!!!

    JAPANESE RELAUNCH FOR XBOX 360

There was just an announcement that says that Microsoft has now decided to sell the Core system in Japan. Previously, only the Premium was available in Japan, and it sold for about $365. The Core system will now be sold in Japan for only $249, and it will include TWO FREE GAMES. The games that will be included are the awesome Project Gotham Racing 3, and the game that Japanese gamers looked forward to a lot--Ninety Nine Nights!

At the Tokyo Game Show, I bet that Microsoft will also announce a similar deal for the Premium Xbox 360 system in Japan.

Everybody knew all along that the Xbox 360 would be the number one selling system worldwide; it has been released in 41 countries, and it is the fastest selling system ever in 40 of them. Japan is the only country where the Xbox 360 wasn't selling well in. Worldwide the Xbox 360 has achieved all of its sales goals, and it is currently on track to achieve its sales goal of 10 million systems sold by the end of the year, as well as 15 million systems sold by June of 2007.

According to Mitsubishi Securities, the Playstation 3 is now only going to sell 3 million systems by March of 2007. The fact that Sony will only be shipping 100,000 Playstation 3 systems in Japan this year means that BY DEFAULT the Xbox 360 will have sold more systems than the Playstation 3 in Japan by the end of 2006!

The Tokyo Game Show will be VERY interesting! The Relaunch of the Xbox 360 in Japan is going to be VERY interesting! The Microsoft X06 Trade Show will also be something VERY special!!!
