Lost Planet in January News

Xbox 360 News by Tom Bramwell

4 September, 2006

Good news for those of you looking forward to Capcom's second big-huge Xbox 360 exclusive, third-person action title Lost Planet - we'll be getting it at the same time as everyone else.

"The plan is for a worldwide simultaneous release in January," a spokesperson for the publisher told us this morning, after producer Jun Takeuchi said last week that the game would ship "globally this winter" - noting a January date but not specifying its internationality to our pedantic satisfaction.

That's likely to come as good news to those of you who've been tearing your hair out instead of the other-people's-brains you'd rightly be tearing out if Capcom's first big-huge 360 exclusive, Dead Rising, had been released here at the same time it came out in the US. As it was, them-over-there got it on August 8th and we're left waiting until this coming Friday.

Back to Lost Planet though, and Takeuchi, speaking to GameSpot, also reaffirmed its big-huge-exclusivity. "We have no plans at this time of porting to or developing for another console, as this would potentially dilute the final product," he said, matter-of-factly. Then again, we've heard that sort of thing before - and Takeuchi admits that these things are always under review.

So anyway, look forward to LP in January. And if you've not already, you can have a go at it on Xbox Live, where a single-player demo showcasing a pair of contrasting levels has been available since May. The full game will also feature multiplayer, which was demoed for the first time in Leipzig last month.

Potentially dilute the final product, well it would if the team working on the game would have to port it. But if all you do is port the engine and systems code it should involve a small team of programmers.

Capcom is putting some serious games on the 360. Great stuff! But I also expect them to port these if they are million sellers. Dead Rising will probably appear on PS3 I guess...

Can't wait for this game. Capcom seem to have been one of hte few developers to have really done well with the 360's hardware. LP looks and plays really great and smoothly too as does Dead Rising.

Well done Capcom.

There have been some vague mutterings about Dead Rising 2 turning up as a PS3 exclusive at TGS, alongside Resi 5. Probably bollocks, but you can never tell these days - everyone seems to be coming up with more and more new and inventive ways of getting around their 'exclusive' tag. Barely improved 'sequels' appear to be flavour of the month.

If Dead Rising 2 is exlusive it will be like Full Auto 2. Just a changed name and two new outfits.

In my opinion the demo for this is one of the sweetest that have appeared on the marketplace so far,I'm really looking forward to its release, the graphics, framerate, animation were all top notch, even at such an early stage, can't wait to see what they've added.

unless Sony cough up mega-bucks any Dead Rising sequel will be a 360 title, if not necessarily a 360 exclusive. Capcom are quickly learning there is $$$ to be made in developing for the 360.

Excellent, cant wait.
Like everyone else has said, the demo was excellent - looked and played superbely (and apparently the few niggles people did have with the controls are being adressed) and Capcom has a proven track-record with satisfyingly violent action so I cant see how this can go wrong.

Given that the star of the game is a Korean actor thats hugely popular in Japan right now (and completely unknown anywhere else) it probably will get a PS3 port to boost Japanese sales, but that shouldnt be any concern for current 360 owners.

Yes, but money is money. Why exclude yourselves of all that Western money, for the sake of a decision not to co-create a game on a 360. It just doesn't make sense.

It makes perfect sense if Dead Rising 2 is just the 360 version ported to PS3 with a couple of extra gizmos and a '2' added to the end. Microsoft get their 'exclusive', Sony get theirs, and the game sells in every region without a lot of extra work.

Now do you see?

dudes sold 500,000 copies of Dead Rising and it's not even out in Europe yet. Capcom are looking at the west and their eyes are just dollar signs right now

Yes, but its not an exclusive is it? Its just a subtle wordplay, and meaningless enhancements.

All I'm saying is the days of third-party exclusives are over. The next year or two will be the dregs. And even then, as you suggest, publishers will be trying their hardest to get out of any contracts stopping them from going multi-platform.

Welcome to a bold new world of console gaming.

Personally I thought the demo was really boring. Will hold off with a defintive comment though until the full game is out, but it doesn't really look like my cuppa tea. First impressions were shit.

Who cares if dead rising and lost planet come to ps3 eventually, they will be old news by then

capcom have been great for the 360 looking at the world market not the shrinking and smallest japanise market, the US and european market is well very profitable for devs that treat it correctly

What they mean is (similarly with devil may cry) they dont want to develop two versions at once, they could well port the 360 versions to the ps3 later

I think the flaw in your argument is that sequels to good games are boosted by people buying them who have enjoyed the 1st.

I think that the PS3 owners will (in the main) not be 360 owners, and therefore if Dead Rising sells well on 360 it would be a very stupid move not to develop it for 360.

They did? Way I heard it they shipped 500,000 copies :)

"Never played the fourth, is it really shit?"

Not at all. It's not as good as 3, but it's still a lot of fun, and it'll last ages if you want it to.
