Mercenaries 2 confirmed
For next-gen.
Pandemic's confirmed speculation that it's working on a sequel to Mercenaries.
Called Mercenaries 2: World in Flames, it's due to be shown off at E3 in detail. For now, all we really know is that it's set in a different location to the first, PS2 and Xbox title, which saw the player violently picking sides in a struggle for bits of Korea.
"While the original Mercenaries' high-octane, go anywhere, do anything and blow the crap out of everything style was a hit with gamers, the whole experience was screaming to run on next-generation game systems," said Pandemic CEO Andrew Goldman.
"And while we're building on the core mercenary experience we created for the original, we've taken full advantage of next-gen technology to offer a more richly detailed, reactive, living world than gamers have ever seen before."
So presumably it's hopping to PS3 and Xbox 360 then - although we'll have to wait until E3 to find out for sure.
In the meantime, Pandemic's dropping hints on its website.

EDIT - also, a co-op mode (online of off) is required too, please. Taking down some enemy bases as a two [or more] player team would be the absolute dog's bollocks.

I don't think they need to do too much to the engine as it was fine as it was..........but definitely a multi-player option, playing co-op would be awesome.........a versus mode wouldn't be too bad either, running around the map, picking up contracts while other mercs are running around picking up contracts too
