DMC3 special edition details

But will it make it to Europe?

Capcom has unveiled a new special edition version of Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening - but the bad news is that it's only down for a US release so far.

DMC3 SE will feature loads of additional content, including an extra playable character - namely Dante's evil twin, Vergil, who has his own special "Dark Slayer" fighting style. There's also a new enemy in the shape of Jester. You might recognise him from cutscenes, but now he's a fully fledged in-game boss.

New game features will include the Turbo Option, which ramps up the game's speed by 20 per cent, and two continue options - you can either use yellow orbs to restart from the last checkpoint, or new gold orbs, which let you restart from the place where you died.

We're promised "more balanced gameplay" thanks to adjusted difficulty levels - there are five options to choose from, including the new Very Hard mode. There's also a new Bloody Palace Mode, which sees you trying to survive in the face of hordes of enemies, and Movie Mode, which allows you to watch unlocked cutscenes either individually or all strung together.

American DMC fans will be able to pick up the SE from January 24 for just $19.95. A Capcom spokesperson told Eurogamer there are currently "no plans" to release the special edition in Europe, unfortunately.

    Best news ever.

Dante is so going to get his hard earned rest and Vergil will take centre stage for once.

Awww, Capcom no care about us?

Just bloody import or get a swap-magic disk for crying out loud!

People played imports on the GameCube with the freeloaded so what exactly is the problem with a similar method for the PS2? More than half of you lot could have played Shadow of the Colossus by now.

Here's hoping it will eventually gets a PAL release.

That and a more accessible regular difficulty setting. I don't play games on anything less than normal, but i also don't have 5-10 hours to spare just to learn the ropes in one game.

After all, normal mode should be just that, and challenging but fair affair. People want to have a good and bloody hard time, then have a hard/very hard mode selectable on the side. Am i not right?
  • trevd72 #5 6 years ago

and they get pissed everytime we chip our playstations. make it available to all and stop us chipping for legit reasons like playing games that the decide we should not play but for the fact we live in a different country. and at around £14.....we do get shit on from a great height.

True...but it gives you an Easy mode after 3 failures, and if it's really as hard as all that, you will fail 3 times in one spot (I certainly did).

That's what the 'easy' mode is for...people who can't do the 'normal'.

@Cloudane: I think you're missing the point - just because we can import it, doesn't mean they shouldn't just bloody release the thing properly. Why should we have to go to extra lengths to get hold of a game when we should just be able to walk into a game shop and buy it, or order it from play.com?

Cloudane - i bought the silver pstwo (my third ps2 cos the others broke down.) and that does not allow you to use swapmagic cos sony covered a hole in the casing that allowed you to insert a piece of plaka that tricked the system into thinking the lid was closed. it was ok with the black pstwos, but i didnt find this out until after i bought it, which was during the first week of its release.

frod - my point was not well aimed. it is really a point about the next gen. stop region protection. allow me to import my games as a customer. you get your money anyway. let me decide if i play the game not the publishers and sony, M$, nintendo.

Its all fair on the PSP, GBA and DS so why not with the bigger consoles. There are however some games on the x360 that have no region locks so hopefully this is a sign that things are progressing.

At this late stage in the current gen.....sony could make a lot of money if they released a boot disk like freeloader to allow us to play the unreleased gems....but perhaps that means we buy them secondhand and they lose money cos we dont buy new games from the retailer - who knows.

either way I hate other people telling me what can and what can't be done with a piece of kit i have spent a lot of money on....which is especially true seeing as i am one of those suckers called early adopters. I should learn to wait a couple of years and get an import unit cheap and get the games second hand - then i win. Can i resist not getting the PS3 and revolution. Afterall i have so many xbox cube and ps2 still to play and the x360 for the next gen.

should we start ignoring them like they ignore us....or is that cutting our noses off.

Gotta love Sony's love for Europe :(
  • reality_cheque #11 6 years ago

@Trevd72: You'd have to get the majority of gamers to go cold turkey on new games for that to work - and if you think I'm giving up GR:AW and Too Human on release day, you can piss right off :p

I can't WAIT until I try the 'Very Hard' mode because I thought DMD mode for DMC3 was a bit hard but not to the point of impossible.

"Gotta love Sony's love for Europe :("
What's sony got to do with it? This is Capcom's decision. And if you guys are importing? Just get the Japanese version, it's got an option to make everything english (well the normal edition did anyhow)

"I can't WAIT until I try the 'Very Hard' mode because I thought DMD mode for DMC3 was a bit hard but not to the point of impossible."
True. But Very Hard sounds like it sits in between DMD and Hard. I wonder if they are actually gonna tone it down so that Easy is now Super Easy, Normal is Easy, Hard is Normal and Very hard is Hard....Hmmmm....
  • Helios #18 6 years ago

The difficulty thing sounds like the ones added in Ninja Gaiden black - one easy one hard.

Very hard in the Special Edition is the Hard mode from the American version. It's a tough challenge, but not as crazy as Dante Must Die. I did Hard mode on the American version after beating Normal and Easy so Dante was powered up almost to the max.
  • inpHilltr8r #20 6 years ago

Import for the hardcore! You're going to want to play this at 60Hz, and you lot got the easier version anyway (although supposedly not as easy as the Japanese one).
  • Machetazo #21 6 years ago

Getting rid of region locking...That is something I really think should happen.

I can't say I'm overly fussed about Capcom's decision on the special edition seeing as i've got the superior God of War (and DMC3) already.
But, if the games companies want to really usher in the next-gen, and make an impact, then removing the region locking on games would be a notable way to do it.

We'd still be limited by language constraints on certain titles obviously, but it would put everyone on a level playing field.

Region codes = illegal marketing practice and THEY KNOW IT.

    E3 last year.
  • Aysir #25 6 years ago

It was only announced for US release recently. The Japanese one has been a long time coming. Which is wierd cause the the Japanese ones coming out Feb and if these release dates are right, the US one comes out first.

"Very hard in the Special Edition is the Hard mode from the American version. "
The difficulties were near-identical as far as I saw. The only main difference was the continue system that made the US and UK version far less forgiving. Personally I much more enjoyed the Japanese versions RE4 style continues. It was far less frustrating than playing the UK one.
