Mark Rein comments on UT2007

'When it's done.'

Epic Games' Mark Rein has settled any lingering doubt about Unreal Tournament 2007's relationship with the PlayStation 3 launch, arguing that since nobody knows when the console will launch and Epic can't predict when UT2007 will be finished, the entire point is rather moot.

"The question of whether we're a launch title or not is unanswerable because we don't know if the PS3 will be out before we're done or not," Rein said in comments reported by GameSpot and 1UP. "We won't ship the title on any platform before it's done, and it is too early to say when that will be."

Yesterday we reported on comments from producer Jeff Morris, who said the first-person shooter would appear on "PC first". Rein echoed that sentiment: "For now we soldier on with the plan to ship on PC as soon as we're done," he said.

    * Except PC. Patches 1, 2, 3 and 4 available on release, patches 5-11 in week 2. Patch 423 may be required in order to see graphics.

    Well I'm willing to bet it'll be out before the end of 2006. I mean you wouldn't want to go releasing a game with "2007" tagged on the end and actually release it in that year would you?

    @MoFo: I clicked on this link precisely to write the same comment. But exceptions have occurred. If I remember correctly, UT 2004 actually came out in 2004.

    Well I say we start a revolution. I mean who wants time to go faster by willing it on through creating games tagged "2007". Let's start making games like "Fifa 1923", "UT 1066" and the classic Grand Theft Dinosaur - 80 million years BC.

    Or at the very least they could just release a game every two years and make them more than a repetitive stinking pile of turd.

    Couldnt be botherd. The original was brilliant and one of the best games ever. The sequels are just crap and keep getting worse. They should give this franchise a rest.

    man he talks crap all day long....hey Mark, buy a game developed by Nintendo, no matter which one it is it will be better than enything Epic ever made.....oh & good luck with gears of war - might want to get the bullets moving at bullet speed thaar matey..

    Hardly a comment from him now tho, also, whats with all the hate? UT games are great and the patches mostly balance and nitpick bugs with the tech released after the game, plus they make bonus packs, and what they give you in the first place is usually generous and usually exectionally coded and meticulosly balanced.
