FFXII confusion cleared up
PS2 only, says Squenix
Following a bit of confusion over exactly which platforms Final Fantasy XII will be appearing on [grr, I said this would happen - Tom], Square-Enix has confirmed that it's a PS2 exclusive and slated for a European release next year.
We're promised there is an FF game for PS3 on the way, however - but no further details have been revealed as yet.
Final Fantasy XII is set in the world of Ivalice, home to the humes, bangaa, viera and moogles, amongst other races. A street urchin named Vaan becomes mixed up in an attempted coup and, along the way, meets Princess Ashe - the sole heir to the throne. Together they embark on a quest to save the day and restore Ashe to her rightful place.
The game features an Active Dimension Battle system, which is said to make combat quicker and more realistic and eliminates load times between the field and battle scenes.
You can now use the terrain to your advantage, hiding from enemies or descending on them from higher ground. But so can your opponents, mind - and their sophisticated AI means they're also able to plan ambushes, back each other up and restore HP.
Screenshots for Final Fantasy XII can be found here.

I second this question. I haven't been confused at all. Well, not more confused than usual that is.
Do you plan on sending to the 'Square Enix Party 2005' next month by any chance? Imagine the popularity surge for this site when you come back with hands-on impressions of games like FF XII, Dirge of Cerberus or Grandia III \o/

Sony vs. Sony? Imagine a world where the PS3 is available and PS2 exclusive games get published and sell better than their PS3 counterparts. *LOL*
Maybe that's why Sony believes in the 10 year lifespan of PS2.

uhm... yeah, there i was thinking ps3 was backwards compatiable?.. hmmm, that means the *exclusive* ps2 game would play in the ps3 too

Why are all RPG stories based around the same concept? Can it really be that hard to think of something original when the game basically lives or dies on the quality of it's story?

we've saved the world now 100 times over, but you know what
it actually bothers me that all RPG's are the same thing
over and over again and it really gets to me that Square in
paticular get away with it all the time. "
Well millions of people that buy FF seems to think otherwise. I think Square gets away with it because of its quality. Say what you want about the story but music, graphics is the best out there.
Btw, if you don't want to play another 'save the world' story game you must miss out on a lot of games then. Especially FPS, RPG, Stradegy. etc. ^_^;

The first time I played FF7 I hated it (idiot I know), a few years later I tried it again and bloody loved it.
And I cant wait for FFXII, even if I dont like the big character style.

I'm a Ninty fan I'm starting to come to terms with the fact that we won't see the main FF series anytime soon
I'm happy we're getting FFCC II though. It's not a shite game and probably the most innovative FF game in years.
I just hope, unlike this generation, Ninty's Revolution console doesn't just get ONE home console offering from Squenix.
Enjoy FF XII PS2 owners. I know I would love to play it too.
