Possession Xbox 360 in-game screens

Blitz shows off next-gen title.

UK developer Blitz has released some screenshots for Possession, its forthcoming survival horror effort for PC and next-generation consoles.

"These are in-game shots from the Xbox 2 early proof of concept demo," a Blitz representative told Eurogamer, contradicting reports elsewhere suggesting they're in-game PS3 shots. "They're from a level that was created to demonstrate plans for the game, but which might not appear in the finished version."

You can view them here.

Possession is a survival horror game that puts you in the role of The Enslaver, a zombie overlord who controls an entire army of the undead. As well as commanding them in battle and possessing individual zombies you can muck about with their DNA, giving them different strengths and weaknesses to create new mutations.

[Being dead is a slightly odd premise for a survival game, no? -Ed]

It's set in a modern-day US city which is described as "freeform and reactive" - the route you take is up to you, and you can destroy buildings and deal out death according to your personal whims and fancies. For more info, read the FAQ on the game's official website.

Possession is slated for a 2007 release, and Blitz told us they'll be "showing a graphically revamped version at E3". We'll bring you more then.

"Blitz shows off pics from Possession, its new next-gen survival horror game, and categorically states that they're for Xbox 360."

...in a desperate attempt to drum up interest in what looks like a rubbish game from a rubbish developer

A new spinon survival, if you're already dead. Saying that, I suppose you have to stop your limbs being blown off, and from those accidental trips to the holy water spas.

Got to say, it looks dreadful. Sorry lads!

Hang on - is this Blitz as in Blitz BASIC?

    And the excellent racer, "Skidmarks"?

Edit: Curses - it's not. It's only the Oliver twins...

It looks no better than RE4 (Graphics wise)

The idea itself sounds pretty good (although, so did Evil Genius), but those early proof of concept shots are not what you should be releasing to the public to drum up interest :)

Now, to take on the role of a typical eg comments regular:

"HAHA, that looks awful, the xbox 360 will fail."

Wow now theres a game to be underimpressed by, almost looks like a mod for half life 2 made by a `oh if I have to` group of students.
  • alimokrane #9 7 years ago

Sorry but I'm not that impressed.

Those screens are awful, though I'm going to resist making judgements as experience tells me that marketing have a disturbing habit of releasing old screens despite being spoon fed all the material they need.

Sweet Jesus... those screenshots looks utterly awful and more this-gen than next-gen. Look at the jaggies on the side of the buildings (I thought Xbox 360 was hi-def and anti-aliased by default?), the dreary textures and overall lack of detail or anything approaching next-gen visually. Even the zombies in one of the screenshots all have the same face!

    Crap and, indeed, crap! Sorry...

Resident Evil 4 definetly looks better. Even the early screens...

Looks a bit like an early PS2 Game (before the PS2 console was launched!!!)
  • Ultimatum #16 7 years ago

I think the problem with those shots is not so much the fact that they look shit, its the Blitz "marketing" team making comments like "Oh dont worry they are early concept shots", when anyone with half a brain knows that that is EXACTLY what the final game will look like.
And if those are early concept screens, why the fuk are they being released to the public ?? Or at least state that they are early concept - for gawds sake, little Johnny doesnt care, or know, what stage the game is at, all he knows is "Possession...god that looks shit doesnt it ?"
Please, you idiots, if you want to sell your game, at least fuking attempt to make it look like something other than a half arsed peice of shit.
    Thanks

It looks atrocious - not only the art style but the actual quality of the graphics.

This is the same Blitz who made the Xbox launch title 'Fusion Frenzy', yes?

    Oh...
  • Roamer #21 7 years ago

Well, at least we know the Xbox 360 has 3rd party support :)

It's depressing that any serious discussion regarding 360 related topics is thwarted by the countless people who come on here to reassure themselves that not bothering with the console is the right thing to do.

As for the game, yes, it seems that smaller developers are keen on getting some attention when the bigger names keep their cards close to their chests. As always with these things, we get fairly standard and often un-noteworthy screens/game announcements first.

The only thing you can extract from this in my opinion is that it seems to be throwing shadows around like they're nothing. Not entirely unexpected, but hey, at least it shows that next gen IS quite a step up after all.

"Hang on - is this Blitz as in Blitz BASIC?

No, that's Acid who made that. With the blitz basic language.

Looks like we got an ass.
