New Zelda to use Rev controller?
Just imagine the possibilities.
Back in November, Nintendo was quick to quash rumours that Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess would make an appearance on the Revolution rather than the GameCube.
And whilst that's still very much the case, a new twist in the tale has emerged, since apparently you'll be able to play Twilight Princess on your Revolution using the crazy new "freestyle" controller.
Nintendo, you may recall, announced that Twilight Princess was delayed back in August, saying that the development team needed more time to "add some incredible new elements" to the game.
Well, according to NGC magazine, these elements are specifically designed to enhance the game for those playing on their shiny new Revolution consoles.
"Twilight Princess will be playable on the forthcoming Revolution using the upcoming console's unique controller," the article states.
"When you insert the disc into your Revolution, you'll be given the option to use the Revolution's controller, with all the advantages this will bring."
But what kind of advantages, exactly? Can we expect new weapons and the like, new levels or perhaps some brand new gameplay? Nothing else has been revealed so far, and we're still waiting for Nintendo to tell us whether or not this is just a rumour, so it's a case of wait and see. In the meantime, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is due out in the spring.

What about the magazine that the story was nicked from? It's been out for a couple of weeks. That's the point. It's old news. News is called "news" because it's new. Otherwise it'd be called "olds".
Complete but a few day old news is much more useful than no news
Complete? Is there confirmation from Nintendo? No. Is there more info from any other source? No. Your idea of complete seems to be Driv3r-esque. This "defend EG at all costs from any criticism whatsoever, no matter how mild" attitude from some of the regs is really starting to grate.

or if someone talks to you about a football result do you beat their heads and scream that you saw match of the day last night and the result is already known to you?

I'll start kicking small animals if the delay on Zelda TP was spent not on stuff that I can enjoy on my Cube, NOW, but exclusively on extra shit that I have to buy their new thingy for.
Fuck fuck fuckity fuck the next generation.

Still, you never know before Nintendo makes a proper announcement. I really hope it's soon after E3, at least in some part of the world (Japan, NA), so we'll know that Europe will be getting it after a couple more months, if Nintendo is to be believed in yet another announcement about Revolution being launched everywhere during a 3 month timeline.

Heh. Kinda funny moaning about something being old and derivative with such a dusty, pilfered quip.

Olds..... You are an idiot
Of course I am.
From AskOxford.....
"What is the origin of the word 'news'?
The original sense of news was 'new things'; this is long obsolete. Since the 15th century it has been used to mean 'tidings, the report of recent events, new occurrences as a subject or report or talk.'
The adjective new goes back to Old English."
From Wordorigins.org
"News
No, news is not an acronym for north, east, west, and south. In fact, there are no pre-20th century words that are derived as acronyms--acronyms are a distinctly 20th century phenomenon.
Rather, the word comes (quite obviously) from new--meaning something that has not existed before, something timely."
Get it right before calling me an idiot, eh? Something 2 weeks old already reported elsewhere is not "news".
Quite how a tongue-in-cheek remark descended into this is typical madness. EG copied something that's 2 weeks old from another source, dressed it up a bit, but added nothing to it. The end.
It would have been news if EG had solicited a comment from Nintendo to add to the original "revelation". It would have been news if EG had got a source from elsewhere to back up the original claims. Since they did neither of these things, given the time gap it was manifestly not news.
FFS, this ritual of some (not all) EG regs' refusal to acknowledge any criticism of the site at all, and insult anyone who dares to say that the site isn't the most amazing thing in the whole world ever in every news story and review, is beyond pedantic.
That's my final word on the subject for now, and I didn't even want to slag off the site for this story. Look what you made me do!

(news is relative to when a person hears it 'thats news to me!' not dependent on who first reports it, thats a tabloid creation to convince you to buy their paper regularly)

Sure. I don't know whether the game is going to be released before the Revolution comes out. My hunch, and it's just a hunch for now, is that it'll end up being a Rev launch title that's also playable on the Cube, which is a subtle change of emphasis from "Cube title also playable on the Rev".
There would be advantages and disadvantages to this. A new Zelda title for a new machine's launch would be a big talking point. Nintendo would get software sales from the big Cube userbase, as well as the game being an incentive for people to buy the Revoluion. But would it just be a current gen game with gimmicky controls added, and therefore not a very good advert for the new system?
Alternatively, if TP was to be released on the Cube well before the Rev's release, would it get totally lost in the market due to the platform being on its last legs?
I don't think it's an easy call for Nintendo to make, they're stuck in a halfway house now and I bet they wish above all else that they could have finished the game and released it before Xmas.

If it runs on the Cube it absolutely must launch as a Cube game, not a 'pretend' Revolution game. I wouldn't be surprised to see it at about the same time as the Revolution, though - if only to ensure that it actually gets some shelf-space on the high-street, many shops having already retired their Cube sections.

Rule of thumb: Never dilute your hardware release. It would be very foolish to release this title at the same time as the Rev if it wasn't somehow tied to that system. It would be like Microsoft releasing Halo 3 for the original Xbox on Nov 22nd 2005 in the US - bad idea.

Despite my previous confidence that it would remain a Cube game, for the first time I'm beginning to have doubts. If it doesn't launch in the Spring then they've completely missed the boat, surely?
Comment below viewing threshold Show
If it goes past April with no release, then I think Ninty are going to have to throw their eggs in the Revolution basket.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
so if the launch titles are weak at least you can play TP on your new rev. ill bet there will be enough ninty games out on the rev to satify. maybe TP will get a big gfx boost and a rev only version to show the difference between the old hardware and new.

If it's any consolation, I'm starting to get a bit weary of that myself. EG as a whole is still the best games site I visit, but the 'news' side of it is definitely lagging way behind everything else.
