DS to get first online RPG

Make Contact, wirelessly.

It's been revealed that Contact, a new game currently in development for the DS, will work with the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service - making it the handheld's first online RPG.

Contact is being produced by Gouichi Suda, director of Capcom's schizophrenic shooter Killer 7. It follows the adventures of a boy called Cherry who's tasked with helping a nutty professor find all the lost components of his spaceship.

But when Cherry and the professor get separated, it's up to you to help them make contact - do you see - by following the professor's instructions on the top screen, and using the touch screen and stylus to move Cherry around.

Now a Wi-Fi Connection logo has appeared on the Contact website, confirming that the game will feature an online mode - but so far there are no details of how this will work.

Contact is out in Japan next month. A European release has yet to be announced, but let's just say we're optimistic...

The screenshots look quite good but the game itself doesn't sound very appealing.

Errr, did not we have enough childish stuff already?
Any word of a more mature RPGs for this promising platform?

Err... so not sure it is an "online RPG"... the WiFi could just be used to exchange items, downloadable scores or some minimal mini-games.

Holy Christ on a stick, that looks fucking awesome. Exactly what I expect 2D graphics to look like anno 2006.

Yeah.. because making things 3d with pretty pixels just instantenously makes the game good!

Yeah making this a Nintendo WFC-compatible game is great idea - I just hope the Nintendo servers will let you stay connected for more than ten minutes at a time.

Doesn't sound like that much of an enjoyable game really... How about a real fantasy online game rather than this crap.

If 3rd parties can get graphics like these on the DS, it augurs well for the graphical presentation of Rev games.

Went hands-on with an HD TV yesterday and I really can't see what the fuss is all about. Silly excited Americans (who always have to have the biggest) and their toys!

Taito's Lost Magic is supposed to be online, according to the official site. Shouldn't that be considered the first DS online RPG instead, seeing as it's due out in a week or two? Though from the looks of it, the online mode seems to be more dueling with other parties rather than adventuring and the like.

Whuh? Forgive me but I'm not too sure what you're trying to say.
