Ratchet PS3 in full production

Insomniac gets back to work.

With Resistance: Fall of Man now finished and ready for the PlayStation 3's launch in Japan and the US this month, Insomniac is turning its attention to other things.

And there's good news for fans of their brilliant PlayStation 2 platform game series - according to an email newsletter sent to fans, Ratchet & Clank is next.

"Those of you who are waiting for some Ratchet & Clank news, here's a quick update. We are in full production on our R&C PlayStation 3 game. That's all we can share at this time, but you'll be hearing and seeing more from us in the not-so-distant future," the update read.

Ratchet & Clank eventually appeared in four games on PS2, with the latter titles also introducing a popular multiplayer element. There's also a PSP version in development called "Size Matters". Those jokers.

That is simply awesome. What PS3 really needs is couple of really, really good platform games that even younger players can enjoy.

Original IP would've been nice, but next-gen R&C and/or Jak&Daxter would be sweet too. Here's hoping..

Well right now I don't care too much about Resistance one way or the other, but this is what I was waiting for. I only played R&C 3, but I have never had this much fun with weapons (and what weapons they are!) in any other game. Also, the sense of humor in the game was superb. And those titles!

I never got on with Ratchet n' Clank. I liked Clank, though. He was cool.

Here's hoping it is more like Ratchet 1-3 and less like Ratchet Gladiator.

Yes, Sony, do a Nintendo and just keep repeating your old franchises over and over again...

Sorry but wtf is wrong with that as log as the games are fun to play?
    Gimmie a break.

But wouldn't you prefer if publishers took chances with new franchises?
  • BartonFink #10 5 years ago

Of course but it's nice to have the comfort of a known and trusted franchise to fall back on when a new and 'innovative' franchise comes to the fore and turns out to be a steaming pile of turd. What's wrong with doing both?

Don't give a damn about new franchises. It's about new gameplay. If you can do that with established intellectual property, all the better.

+1 to both Les and disc

For me as a gamer, I expect each franchise should have it's own unique gameplay/engine associated to it. That's why I mentioned publishers taking chances with new franchises.

    /sighs and remembers Sega fondly

You obviously haven't played the abortion that is the latest Sonic then.
  • SeesThroughAll #15 5 years ago

LOL, there you go, Sonic is a fine example: Take the same old trusted franchise, rape the gameplay, and that's how Sonic games are shite nowadays.

But in the old days, Sega was always making new worthwhile franchises. Shemnue comes to mind.

I have mixed feelings about a new R&C game - although there were some fun additions in R&R2 and R&C3, I think in many ways the first game was really the strongest - and certainly R&C3 and Ratchet: Gladiator were beginning to get weak.

If they want to continue the series they need more variety and less focus on combat - don't get me wrong, I like combat and it's the main thing that drew me to the games - but exploration and platforming shouldn't be abandoned.

excellent, R&C series are one of the best games ive ever played on PS2 :)

"But wouldn't you prefer if publishers took chances with new franchises?"

    You mean like Resistance?

'R&C 2 and 3 ruined everything from 1, far too much combat.'

Yes i agree. It pretty much went from a fun platformer with weapons to a shootem up by the later games.
