Silent Hill movie pics released

It's looking pretty spooky.

With six months to go until the movie hits US cinemas, some new stills from the Silent Hill film have been released.

They show the film's heroine, Radha Mitchell, running around with torches, being mauled by weird-looking creatures and generally doing the sorts of things you'd expect a Silent Hill character to do.

The film also stars Sean Bean, and the script has been written by Killing Zoe director and Pulp Fiction co-writer Roger Avary. Christophe Gans is directing, and Uwe Boll is not being allowed to have anything to do with the movie whatsoever.

Silent Hill is out in the US on April 21 - there's no word on a European release as yet.

Could be alright this; it’s made by the same bloke who directed Brotherhood of The Wolf.

    Which was ace.
  • kenty #3 6 years ago

It kind of does remind me of silent hill 1
  • kangarootoo #4 6 years ago

Well they have the sets looking right anyway. More wet steel and mesh fences that you can shake a disturbing knife wielding bandaged midget at. Plus that woman from Pitch Black is (one of) my future wife(s).
  • LaundroMat #5 6 years ago

Isn't there an Avary who directed Bond films too?
  • abigsmurf #6 6 years ago

this has so much potential, god I hope it's good

    looks spooky?
nope sorry looks rubbish to me. the second shot is piss poor latex gloves and looks ridiculous
  • Freek #8 6 years ago

Movie stills of horror films rarely look scary since they are completly out of context.

The Avary in questions co-wrote the screen-play for Pulp Fiction, in his blog he mentions Pyramid Heads wandering about the set with malformed babies and none of the crew taking any notice.

It looks like it might be good, but im guessing its going to turn out like Phantoms with Ben Affleck. :p

    looking great so far!

    Sean Bean!
  • Kami #13 6 years ago

So, an entirely new plot? With a selection of not-bad-looking ladies? SOLD!

Seriously, looks a bit "Hmm" from the stills... but then, sometimes stills don't do a film justice. So I'll wait, because this does have potential to be a really good movie.

NOTE: It doesn't seem to be based on any of the games character-wise, I'm pretty sure that cop is not Cybil.
  • ecureuil #14 6 years ago

It looks crap. What a surprise.
  • rinoaMW #15 6 years ago

sean bean.. so thats the one who'll turn out to be the baddie at the end then, when all the 'plot-twists' are sorted out. oh and Kami

"NOTE: It doesn't seem to be based on any of the games character-wise, I'm pretty sure that cop is not Cybil. "

From the one shot she's in it doesn't seem like shes a main character.. all im deducting is that she is a blonde-short-haired policewoman... remember silent hill is only a small place, and it stands to reason that the film's director might include her as a way to gel this story into the current universe (like bringing jill and carloes into the resi films).. if she was indeed out searching for cheryl, then its possible that this film's protagonists could 'run into her' at some point. She was only a bit-part of Silent Hill's story, not a main charcter, so i think its fine to include her for fan's of the series, without confusing anyone else in the audience.

I really hope its good though, as im such a big fan of the series :)

Hehe. There is an awful lot of "looks crap" comments on here. With a few screen shots to go on, and as has been mentioned absolutely no directorial context, I find it hard to believe that anyone can really form an opinion at this stage.

Its like seeing the front cover of a CD and saying "looks like it will sound crap".

amazing, what the cell can do in 2006 ;)
  • Jimmy__Fury #20 6 years ago

I'm just very happy that its not being directed by Uwe Boll or Paul Anderson.

Those couple of screens look like they have the mood right, I'm always up for movies with Sean Bean because he's cool.

That main female used to be Catherine in Neighbours, if you recall ;)

Also, I'm wondering how far the plot will deviate from the game. The game's plot wasn't half bad really. It seems they are at least sticking to the spirit of the game.
  • marilena #21 6 years ago

It looks seriously bad, I can't understand how anyone would think different. The lighting is seriously crap, the environments and props (rubber hands) are very, very cheap, overall it looks like a direct to video movie. Sure, these are just some stills, but they are pretty telling in my opinion.

And anyway, Brotherhood of the Wolf was by far the worst movie I have seen in my life, so I can't be in any way more hopeful than I would have been if it was directed by Uwe Boll.

    marilena, watch more films.
  • marilena #23 6 years ago

More bad films, you mean? Nah, if I never see a film worse than Brotherhood of the Wolf I won't mind.
  • Xerx3s #24 6 years ago

Looks arse. Uwe Boll? But then again, Sean Bean will make things right:)

"Some people are never impressed! It looks like Silent hill! what more do you people want? "

Not much to be impressed with. No it doesnt. And a good film with good graphics and a good storyline.
  • Shrimp #25 6 years ago

Yeah, have to say I'm not too impressed so far.

I reckon to make a really odd, eerie Silent Hill film you'd need to put Wong Kar Wai in a room with David Lynch and one of those japanese horror chappies, and don't let them out til they've finished.

Just looks a bit too action-y at the moment, although the shot of the girl in front of the door looks quite cool.
  • chronom4n #26 6 years ago

isn't that alanis morrisette in one of the stills?
  • Freek #27 6 years ago

  • Lazarii #28 6 years ago

marilena, you do realise that in post-production the visual effects team will make everything look darker don't you?

And to everyone asking if that is Cybil, YES IT IS.
  • Mirkan #29 6 years ago

The rubber gloves look pretty pants, but monsters and stuff always look pants in stills. In fact, I've never seen a single still from a movie that actually tells you anything about its quality. I'll reserve judgement for a trailer and of course the final thing.

It has the makings of a brilliant film though. Good director, good writer, good cast, Akira Yamaoka on the soundtrack and a proper rated horror film. If this is crap, it's at least crap in the spirit of the game. As a huge fan of the franchise I'm hoping it's good though.
  • squeakyg #30 6 years ago

The film is partly based on the first game, but with a woman instead of a male lead searching for her daughter. Some characters are new, some are from Silent Hill 1. We'll just have to see how much the story is changed.
  • ecureuil #31 6 years ago

Hehe. There is an awful lot of "looks crap" comments on here. With a few screen shots to go on, and as has been mentioned absolutely no directorial context, I find it hard to believe that anyone can really form an opinion at this stage.

Just like those who said "It will be crap." in the 'Halo movie announced" news item?
  • OllyJ #32 6 years ago

"Not much to be impressed with. No it doesnt. And a good film with good graphics and a good storyline. "

It doesn't look like Silent hill?

Have you ever played a Silent Hill game? from the few shots released, the sets look like parts of the game from 1,2 and3. And as someone mentioned above it's got yer original sound effects guy doing it all for the movie too, and as any Silent Hill fan knows the audio is half the fear.

Anyway lets at least wait for a trailer before completley trashing it!
  • Scimarad #33 6 years ago

From what I can see it definitely seems to have captured the look of Silent Hill. Let's hope it can manage the atmosphere...
  • jawolf #34 6 years ago

*monotone voice* Cheryl *pause* is that *pause* you Cheryl ! (the voice acting set SH1 was fantastic *cough*)

I'm all for midgets Kangarootoo! Be them bandaged or not.

    Places needed in film:
    *Amusement park
*Hospital (looks like a check on that point)

Will it be a Silent Hill 1 speedrun just acted out???
  • fingered #35 6 years ago

Too all those who say the "rubber" arms look crap. Think back again to the game and you'll realise the monsters in the game all look rubbery. Kinda S&M weird kinky freaky beasts. Which I reckon will look pretty cool once finished. The sets look good, but without watching a trailer it's hard to tell whether the atmosphere of the game will have been captured. Critics aside I will be waiting and watching this film, only then can I make an objective review about whether or not they've pulled it off. Roll on release day....
  • matrim83 #36 6 years ago

and Uwe Boll is not being allowed to have anything to do with the movie whatsoever.

It has a chance to live......
