Extreme Ghouls 'n Ghosts PSP
It's 2D but in 3D but in 2D.
Just yesterday, we demanded exclusive PSP titles to save us agonising over whether to buy the same game twice to play it at home as well as on the go. Hurrah, then, because Goku Makaimura - aka Extreme Ghouls 'n Ghosts - is just such a thing.
Developed by Capcom, of course, and unveiled in the latest issue of Japanese mag Famitsu, EGnG is directed by father-of-the-series type Tokurou Fujiwara and is a side-scroller with a 3D engine and art direction said to be consistent with the early '90s vintage.
Unlike the originals, you can explore a bit, with branching and warp points built into some of the levels. You can also build up your skills as you play, learning to double-jump (and even fly, apparently), unlocking spells and generally doing more of all the things you used to be able to do.
EGnG should be playable at the Tokyo Game Show. Its announcement is also interesting because Ghouls 'n Ghosts was another of the games featured on a Capcom PSP poll nine months ago that sought input on which games to develop for the PSP. Other games on that list already headed to PSP include Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Megaman, Monster Hunter, Breath of Fire and Street Fighter.

Hope they've taken the gameplay a little more into the modern times. If the keep it like the original people won't get with it IMO.

As for New Super Mario Bros, I played it briefly at one of those Nintendo roadshow things the other week and I have to say it didn't feel like Mario at all - it felt (and looked) like some dodgy Atari ST game. I'm hoping I just played a particularly shit bit.
