GTA coming to GBA before year end News

GameBoy Advance News by Tom Bramwell

2 September, 2004

The long-awaited GBA version of Grand Theft Auto will be released before the end of this year, but won't be a direct port of the 1997 original, it has emerged.

The car jacking crime-fuelled bonanza of freeform gameplay looks certain to go down a storm on the format and could spark a sales surge for Nintendo's format in the run up to the all-important Christmas season.

Details on the project remain scant to date, but it's understood that while the traditional top down viewpoint will be used for the game, the GBA version will have its own entirely unique storyline - making it an even more essential purchase among the brand's millions of fans.

Full, official details are understood to be formally released within the next few weeks. Check back for the full lowdown on GTA GBA soon.

I was hoping they'd be brave and turn out a 3D version, but after Driver, they probably learned a lesson.

I wonder if this will make it out before the 3D gta rip-off game I read about a while back...

That's the one - 3D (well sort of) and looking VERY GTA-esque.

One of the best things about the GTA games have been their soundtracks. Sadly, this is more than likely to be a non event on the GBA version, regardless of any technical wizardry or groundbreaking compression routines.

Max, I think a lot of people would disagree with you about GTA1, your opinion though. But its certainly not money for old rope. A completely new game, built from the ground up. New story, new city (id imagine), new missions, new modes. Oh and a completely new platform.

No 3D=No Buy

So you'd rather it was 3D and shit than 2D and actually playable?

It's people like you who've buggered up the games industry.

Who said it'd be shit?

Well it would be shit. 3D on the GBA is rubbish.

Wait a second, which GTA sold more, 3D, or 2D? I rest my case.

Wow, what logic, case clossed. An old pc games sales compared to a new PS2 games sales figures when talking about a GBA game.

2D doesn't work in free roaming games.

wtf?!!
