Dirge of Cerberus mobile plan

Exclusive to Amp'd in US.

Square Enix is planning to release mobile title Dirge of Cerberus: Lost Episode - one of its Compilation of Final Fantasy VII titles - exclusively through US carrier Amp'd Mobile for three months beginning this summer.

Quite what this means for Europe is anyone's guess (well, if it's anyone's it's Square Enix, but they haven't responded to our requests for comment), but it does mean that if you want to know what Vincent Valentine gets up to while he's tackling Deepground Soldiers, you're going to need to a) be American and b) buy it off Amp'd.

In case you missed the E3 announcement, Lost Episode picks up three years after Final Fantasy VII and combines third-person action and RPG elements, a bit like the PS2 Dirge of Cerberus, with multiplayer elements due to be added at a later date.

We'll let you know when we hear more about Square Enix's European mobile plans.

Lost episode takes place During Dirge of Cerberus. It just fills in a missing journey between two of the chapters.
Personally mobile games annoy me...I don't have a mobile good good enough to play Before Crisis or Lost Episode and you can't own the games in any solid form.

Although I'm really into mobile gaming I don't really see why this news should be mentioned on EURO gamer

It's gaming news. Gaming news people from Europe might be interested in...

Still not interested in the game mind (not unless it is as good as Lumines).

... I wish they'd leave FF7 go, instead of trying to recapture their glory day... move on, do something better...

They did, it was called FFVIII ;)

Seriously though, Dirge of Cerberus is looking a bit wanky. I'll give it a go, but I'm not expecting much. Looking forward to Core Crisis a lot more, as at least a prequel to FFVII might actually work, rather than some pointless shooter sequel.

FF8 wasn't that good to me, whilst technically sound... it lacked soul, if you can understand that. Too much mushy romance between Squall and Rinoa and on some loose coincidences. Final Fantasy 9 was great in plot, style and flair, loved it a lot... just somehow, not as much as #7...

But as I said, it seems people still regard #7 as the best of the series. That is why I think they're chasing that glory moment... and why I think that is a very bad idea...

Besides, Dirge IS a prequel, isn't it?

Actually, I thought FFVIII had a lot of 'heart' to it. The characters were a lot more likeable and (Yes, I know how this sounds) believable than those seen in FFVII. The Squall/Rinoa thing was great I though, but I will give you the 'Hey, we all grew up together!' bit was a stretching things a touch. It's probably my fave FF title in all honesty.

Yeah, there just wasn't much that could be done with it, as the messy Advent Children plot proved. They're revisiting FFVII because they ran short on ideas and needed a big 'name' to cash in on quick I think, a real shame, as they should have saved all the hype up for something big for the tenth anniversary next year in my opinion. Bit late for that now I guess.

The approach they're taking with FFXIII seems a 'touch' more sensible at this point, get the spin offs and prequels and what have you made alongside the main game and avoid any plot or continuity problems. We'll see how that goes I guess.

"Besides, Dirge IS a prequel, isn't it?"

Nah, it's set three years after FFVII.

I guess that's what put me off FF8. Don't misunderstand, I do love FF8. The GF system, technically, has yet to be surpassed. Easily my favourite system. But the story was a bit Mills and Boon-reject. I'm all for romance, but the plot had a lot more emphasis on Squall and Rinoa than anyone else, so I feel other characters got sidelined when they could have developed more... but hey, that's my take. We're only arguing over the plot anyway, technically it is the better game but the plot ended up the hardest thing to swallow...

And I'm with you on the reasoning. But I think SE are playing a dangerous game, yes, there is some love after Advent Children because it wasn't a total piece of turd... but they really oughta stop pushing this goodwill, because when fans turn nasty, things get ugly. Honestly, if they're going to remake the game can't they just bloody do it already! Wish they'd stop arsing about with the before and after events... they've mentioned it before, always very cryptic, I don't think it's a good idea but if they're going to do it, they should stop mucking their fans about and do it. Goodwill only lasts so long...

And oh, I remember when it was meant to be a prequel - that was some time ago though. So, three years after FF7 events... just after the events of Advent Children then, eh? (Which was set two years after FF7. Yes, I know how sad knowing this makes me look.) So, Dirge is the sequel of the sequel... hmm... okay then...

    ... still not convinced.
