Halo 3 at MS conference?

More trailer talk.

While Halo 3's often been linked with next Tuesday's Microsoft press conference, IGN now claims that it's confirmed that the game will be shown off in video form.

Citing "independent sources who recently spoke with Microsoft executives", IGN promises a two-minute-long Halo 3 trailer for Xbox 360.

Given the extraordinary success of Halo and its sequel on Xbox 1, it'd be hardly surprising if Microsoft planned to use the game to spearhead its push against this year's rival next-gen console launches - although the company is unlikely to offer any real confirmation until Tuesday.

What's very likely though is that any Halo 3 trailer will also appear on Xbox Live Marketplace - Microsoft having already said it will put videos, news and E3 game demos on there during the show.

Speculation as to Halo 3's nature and release date have been rife for ages, as you well know. Bill Gates once claimed PS3 would walk smack-bang into it at launch, although his fellow executives later walked back his comments, suggesting that it'll be done when Bungie says it is and no sooner.

We'll bring you coverage of Microsoft's pre-E3 conference as it happens next Tuesday.

Surely it'd be more surprising if it wasn't there?
  • Chewy #2 6 years ago

I suspect it will be a teaser and not show any in-game footage, which begs the question the value of it in the first place; apart from confirming the game’s existence.

Hurry up with the Halo 3 why doncha
  • Talha #4 6 years ago

Halo 3 is here. Everything else is irrelevant. ;-)

@disc: Don't be stupid - Halo is the be-all and end-all of all gaming. Just ask Bill Gates.

    Halo3 ... meh!

Halo2 was uninspiring tosh at best, at worst it was over hyped, over heated, over rated and over here...

Halo 3 = More of the same

At a time, I'd have agreed with you GitSomE. Then I played though both games and through the co-op mode and would argue that no game comes close to its quality in co-op (though I believe that, like Harry Potter, it steals all the best ideas from other games and brings them altogether in a lovely shiny package)
  • Talha #7 6 years ago

@disc : I agree with you. I like Halo, but the way MS and Co pretend it is the best thing ever, and prefer to market it like an all-encompassing juggernaut, ignoring plenty of other good XBox games, just makes me want to hate it.

It's hyped like any other important title, for example, GTA, Zelda, Mario, MGS, Half Life etc. And for good reason, they are verry good games and are verry important to thier respecitive owners.
  • stuarty_2003 #9 6 years ago

@disc, Talha: That's marketing for you.
  • morriss #10 6 years ago

You're all so clever, I can't keep up. You cut through the industries hype with a hot knife through butter. No flies on you guys, no way. No-one's gonna fool you lot. No sir!
  • lemonfist #11 6 years ago

    It better have online co-op.
  • SeesThroughAll #12 6 years ago

I'm betting it will go MMO.
  • Talha #13 6 years ago

@Freek & Stuarty: No doubt, I agree with you both. It is just that Halo marketing irritates and offends in a rather special way.
  • coojam #14 6 years ago

Jesus i think in my last post I may have suggested that Harry Potter was a lovely shiny package.
  • Talha #15 6 years ago

@coojam : Don't you dare insult Harry Potter in front of me. I will hex you to hell, I promise - or turn you into a ferret. ;-)
  • The-Bodybuilder #16 6 years ago

I remember the days when the word "halo" would span a 50+ page comments section.
  • Steroyd #17 6 years ago

    nearly half way there. ;)

No it's not i heard of GTA back in August and then a website here and a rumoured name there, and havn't heard tail or hide of it for a few months ago maybe longer, Zelda TP has gone completely off the radar last i heard it was delayed again it was meant to come out last month, and Mario? Mario doesn't need to get hyped he's been raped enough don't ya think?
Halo i hear a few new somethings about it every month since X05.

Surely Wii doesn't spark 30 times the interest of a Halo news item :-O Ah well, is the nature of the industry I guess *cancels preorder of Revolution and places two preorders for Wii*

    >"cancels preorder of Revolution and places two preorders for Wii*"

My wii is gonna be released very soon, apparently.

"So is that all there is to the Xbox?

    Halo?"

Yes: Nobody's bought a 360 yet because Halo isn't out and there is simply nothing else worth playing.

I don't think Halo will be there. It doesn't need to be. But if it is, it'll be a spoof video to rip the Wii out of the pantomime that was Sony's press conference at E3 2005; and not actually gameplay footage. The strength of the 360s second wave games should be able to hold their own quite well against the launch games of the other two next-gen consoles.

Obviously, if it's announced, hardware news: price & dates, will take precedence initially, and all the journos and fanboys alike (is there a difference?) will be besides themselves. Once that hype fizzles away and all that's left is the actual games, I believe, based on everything seen so far, Microsoft will have the best line-up.

Given the show they put on last year, Sony have a lot of expectations to exceed with their launch games, and whilst hoping that they do surprise with a few knockout surprises, I'm not so sure they will. Fatal Inertia / Untold Legends anyone? Didn't think so.

Eh, I'm sure people were saying the same things about Ridge Racer 6 and Perfect Dark Zero or whatever this time last year as well. No 'knockout surprises' are needed, just decent looking titles. Most people tend to wait and see something in action before dismissing it.
  • dk_rare #23 6 years ago

Well I bought my 360 because I thought the Rare games were gonna be "must haves". Boy was my face red, and my bank balance. Still, it'll be good to have Halo 3. Except my console will be using the 90nm technology in the cpu and new consoles will have 65nm technology, damnit, you just can't win with Microsoft
  • NegativeZero #24 6 years ago

Bungie have said that their next game won't be Halo 3 several times. I imagine that if the game is actually in production then they've either forked into two development groups, or they've grabbed one of the other MS studios.

@coojam: Halo 'stole' most of the gameplay (especially the multiplayer) from their previous FPS, Marathon. While it may have incorporated a few extra elements from other places, the core of Halo has a completely different ancestry than other shooters.
