Boll welcomes Razzie nomination

He's honoured, no less.

Notorious movie director Uwe Boll has told Eurogamer that he feels honoured to have been nominated for a Golden Raspberry award.

As we reported earlier this week, Boll is up for a worst director Razzie for Alone in the Dark. The film's star, Tara Reid, has also been nominated to receive the worst actress award.

Eurogamer contacted Boll to find out how he felt about being nominated - after all, the Razzies are designed to celebrate the worst achievements in film rather than recognise greatness.

But Boll doesn't see it like that, exactly. "It is a great honour," he told us, adding: "I take every prize I get."

So is there a chance that Boll could turn up to collect his award in person? It's always a possibility - after all, last year Halle Berry attended the Razzies to pick up her trophy for Catwoman and thank Warner Bros. for "casting me in this piece of sh**t", before telling her agent: "Next time, read the script first." We're pretty sure Boll will be at least as vocal if he makes an appearance at this year's event...

    Have they still not closed that German tax loophole to stop cheeky companies funding him for flops to get a tax break? As far as I can see that's the only reason he's still managing to make crap films, and laugh about how he's getting away with it.

    There's an interview on Gametrailers.com where he counters these accusations of him and other Germans making money off of bad films through the loophole, something about all the profit being made from DVD-sales. I also read that that tax loophole was closed a while ago, so perhaps....perhaps Boll is just a really dim, really lucky guy...

    Whatever he is, Hollywood sucks.

    Alone in the Dark is surprisingly... unentertaining. I mean, after House of the Dead I thought it'd at least be funny. And I'd rather do Christian Slater than Tara Reid.*

    A german videogame magazine "GEE", one that is aimed at a more intelligent crowd than the average vg mag, had a nice Boll feature in an issue some months back.

    He's a very intelligent guy, also very nice. He explained his motivations and he presented the financing model the system works upon. AITD was a financial success in DVD sales.

    Also, he left the impression that he really tries. Thats what stuck with me. He honestly thinks that he knows what a good videogame movie needs and he puts this all in his movies. And he flamed Tara Reid as the most incompetent actor he's ever worked with and was really pissed about her.

    Getting gradually more fond of Boll. He's as amusing a demon as Jack Thompson, except he doesn't go around specifically pissing everyone off, and we got some pretty awful B movies to get drunk and take the piss out of.

    I actually like this guy. He is honest and open, what you would call a 'good sport'. Might as well have a trophy for his drawing room, since he is not likely to get any decent awards.
