Sam & Max to return?
Creator retains character rights.
In a recent interview at Gamesutra, Sam & Max creator Steve Purcell (currently working for film animation studio Pixar) expressed that he would like to get back into games development: "Would I get back into games? Sure. The [Sam & Max] license is back in my hands now so we'll see what happens in the near future."
Whether this means we'll see a resurrection of the brilliant rabbit and dog duo after LucasArts canned the planned sequel remains to be seen, but there's no doubting the rights are in the hands of someone who loves the original, given Purcell birthed the comic book series which the game was based on.
Purcell has also worked as an artist on Zak McKracken, Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, The Secret Of Monkey Island, The Secret Of Monkey Island 2, Loom and Pipedream.

Although its no guarantee of anything soon, its promising news. I guess now it depends on whether any publishers out there think it is a valuable IP (not sure how much of the current mainstream remeber the original).

I've actually been trying to play The Dig for the first time ever today, and I have to say that some of the puzzles are waaaaaay too obscure.
edit: by the way, they've got Scummvm running on a DS!

Telltale Games, who's making the game, consists of former LucasArts titles. I wouldn't want LucasArts to work on any sequel of the classics either way, 'cause all their talent have left long ago - forming companies like Autumn Moon Entertainment (with Bill Tiller - graphics designer from Curse of Monkey Island among others. Their project "A Vampyre Story" looks fantastic and looks to be another classic in the veins of the old LucasArts titles) and Telltale.

Game-wise, I'm hoping they'll star in a cartoony carting game. It's just what the world needs.
