WarioWare Twists to Sept

"Localisation issues."

The European release of stupendously splendid GBA title WarioWare Twisted has been put back to September, Nintendo's UK office told Eurogamer this week.

With the release date originally planned for this Friday, we were hoping to procure our review copy in time for launch but were told by Nintendo's UK PR manager Robert Saunders: "Wario Twisted is now out in September due to localisation issues in Europe".

While we're used to the dreaded translation headaches holding up Nintendo games, the game did recently get a US release, so English speaking gamers might be well advised to speak to their friendly neighbourhood importer and avoid having to wait another three months to get their hands on what is undoubtedly one of the finest handheld games you'll ever play.

Much like the previous madcap WarioWare titles it's another couple of hundred mini-games to wade through, only this time featuring probably the best use of a motion sensor in a game.

Don't believe us? Then have a quick read of what young Thomas made of the Japanese version when we imported that, ooooh, way back. Hnar.

    "stupendously splendid"
    hmmm

Wasn't it just this week that Nintendo said they weren't shafting Europe any more?
  • Tonka #3 7 years ago

    It's so simple.
1 Relase english only version for the millions of GBA owners who speak english
2 Release localized version for the others
    3 Comapre figures
    4 Draw conclusions

But think of the difficulty of translating words like "shake", "jump", "avoid" into a few major European languages, we should give them another year to allow for this.

Is anyone else slightly suspicious that all of the best Nintendo handheld games are being bumped back to coincide with the release of the PSP in this territory? Mario Kart and Metroid Prime: Hunters both got pushed back to September, and now the new WarioWare. I'm sure there will be other titles that will suffer 'localisation issues' between now and then.

Nintendo in "GBA killer app released the same day as PSP" shocker!!

Mattigan: "Nintendo in "GBA killer app released the same day as PSP"
    shocker!!"

I reckon you're right there. The bastards.
  • terminalterror #9 7 years ago

I'm obviously not a cynical bastard because when I saw that I didn't automatically think of Nintendo delaying their big titles to clash with the PSP. Amazing that Wario Ware Twisted can be considered a big title now after Touched, because the first one, whilst excellent, sold no copies.
  • tiddles #10 7 years ago

Did Touched really sell no copies? I thought it was one of the top selling DS titles (in Europe at any rate) - wasn't it selling more than Super Mario DS at some points?

It's obvious that localisation for Europe will take a little while, since some European countries tilt the other way...
  • tiddles #11 7 years ago

btw, I'm playing the US version at the moment, and it's bloody genius. The way that they've integrated a rumble function into the tilting is particularly fine...

"GBA killer app released the same day as PSP"

Damn you Sony for delaying Wario...
  • sonmi451 #13 7 years ago

September...? i'll be distracted by the PSP launch and will have totally forgetton about Warioware.

    cunning marketing strategy...
  • gerg #14 7 years ago

What would be a real treat would be a Game Boy Micro and Play-Yan combo launch on Sptember 1st.

    LOL!
I played WW Touched and it was not good, I didn't complete all the ramifications. While it was a funny innovative idea, in the end was a bit "not satisfying".
  • Mr_Brown #16 7 years ago

lol...I had this since last September. Nintendo hates Europe. Thank god for Lik Sang!

    "Nintendo hates Europe."

    [sarchasm]
Im sure they are going out of their way to release the game later than they need to.. Just like im sure sony are releasing the psp so much later in europe as they obviously hate us as well..

Careful, people. That's a pretty big sarchasm

That was a bit unclear. Touched sold loads of copies. Wario Ware Inc. didn't though (the original GBA one).

"Why dont they just send it to a bunch of other localization studios at the same time?"

The problem is less likely to do with getting the words translated, and more to do with fitting text in boxes, fitting game in memory (now you have 6 times more text, and a larger character set than the us version), etc etc. There are also other localisation problems where certain countries find certain things offensive, etc etc.

And if it has (for example) "doctor surgery" written on a wall as a graphic, you'll need to make each of those graphics mean something in each teritory too. Or a better example, maybe you've got a diet coke can in the uk version, that'll need to be a "coke light" can on the french version, etc etc...

And then, you have headache of fitting all the extra data onto the game cart too.

    I call bullshit on Nintendo.
  • Royal Fool #24 7 years ago

Localization issues? For a game like that?

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Wow, Nintendo. Holy crap... you're running out of excuses.
  • AOFanboi #25 7 years ago

Wonder if the Sept release wil coincide with the Gameboy Micro release as well? They said this autumn/fall for that one...
  • joey #26 7 years ago

Some reviews say that this requires you to give the old GBA a right hammering, well thank god it's actually a tough system, I tried a PSP today in my local Game shop, and while I was rightly stunned by the screen and the graphics, it is quite a delicate device, it does actually bend which was a little worring - and has anyone actually tried to use the analouge stick, I don't have large hands but its almost imposible to reach without the thing slipping out of your hands. Shame as I was very impressed!
  • jellyhead #27 7 years ago

Joey: I think it's to do with the shoulder buttons being a flat plane in the middle of the device. I find i can't use the analog nub and shoulder buttons together in wipeout pure as it feels like the psp will slip out of my hands ( or claws as thats what shape my hands are in at that point). I'm thinking of glueing a flap or something onto the shoulder buttons so i can press them more easily.

Now, let's assume for a minute that someone may wonder:

From where would be the best place to get the US version?

I just ordered it from Import Madness for 16 quid, but then you have to add postage.

That's funny I saw Wario Ware twisted on the shelves here on the weekend. Admitedly I'm in Australia but I thought we only got the European versions here.

Has anyone tried playing twisted with a DS? are there any compatibility problems?

Touched was the first Wario Ware game I have played and my Fiance and I love it.
