Awesome wallet is tied up at the moment, but at least it's nice to know that if I somehow forget about Valkyria Chronicles come December this content will remind me when it comes. :D

Can't recommend this enough... probably the best RPG of this generation. Easily the most impressive game I've got my hands on this month, and thats some serious competition in there too.

Bit hard to forget about the game with a massive ad for it plastered all over part of Eurogamer :P

Good to know we are getting the extra stuff.
I'm 17 hours into the game myself, and despite its flaws and rather quirky ruleset, I've found it to be one of the most addictive games in recent memory. When its late at night and I'm still playing it I keep thinking "OK I should stop now... but I don't want to...... but I really should.... but I..I'll just do this skirmish battle.... OK I should stop now.... but I'll just get past these story sections" and so on until 1am.

Great news, I was wondering about this. No point releasing it any earlier to be honest because most people will still be playing the game.

Just one question...is this the Selvaria DLC? Because I think that was more than one mission, or is it the same thing as the extra hard skirmish mode? Hmm.

I'm with you there toy_brain just can't put the pad down. I always try to end my play session with a skirmish to gain some more experience and cash, which then leads to me starting a new chapter to try out the new stuff i have aquired.

@Widge

Not sure about RPG, but certainly the best JRPG. To be fair there hasn't been a great deal of competition, even despite MS throwing money at devs. But I reckon this would still stand a good chance of holding the same title by the time the PS4/720 come round...especially if all the FFs and Star Oceans of this world stick to the same old tired formulas.

@DanWhitehead

Really? Are you sure? I'm getting mixed messages here :P

Would have been nice if they'd just put the new content on the disc. It used to happen with a lot of the SRPGs and RPGs on the PS2, the Western releases would be ports of later editions of the game rather than a straight port of the original, I'm betting there will be a Japanese budget release with all the content on the disc in the first half of this year.

Brilliant, brilliant game. Easily the best game I have played on the PS3. The canvas engine is just amazing and the soundtrack is superb. I have the unfortunate feeling though that this is not going to sell very well (just like Skies of Arcadia). Pity, it combines all the good bits of RPGs (story, levelling) and leaves out all the crud i.e. random battles.

I like the fact that its decently challenging. You get that Cannon Fodder style attachment to your squad of people so you really don't want them to die, and on my 2nd proper mission in charge of a squad, I got trumped by a rocket to the arse of my tank because I'd deemed the right flank "not a threat". Its nice to be challenged, mainly since I can go through the likes of Final Fantasy and whatnot without fear of death at any point.

I'm kinda torn on this one. I love my JRPG's. I bought all the big ones of this generation (Disagea 3 and Lost Odyssey being the best), but for some reason this looks rather bland. Do the settings change a lot from the little French/Dutch village theme enough?

I kinda agree with Edge on this one from hat I've seen that it's stil looks a hell of a lot like cellshading with some extra pencil effects, nothing spectacular new. And the 4-1 custsenes ratio kinda scares me away as well, seeing as I'm getting bored with Anime chicks staring in to the distance contemplating why the sky is blue (I fell asleep with Eternal Sonata).

The gameplay seems nice, but is this epic enough?

Ok I'll comment on that for you! It starts off in Welkin's home town on Bruhl with loads of people apparently evacuating from the assault by the Eastern Empire. The animated cutscenes are absolutely gorgeous (especially when the Empire penetrate the heart of Bruhl), and within a few mins you're pitched into a couple of fights with the Empire. You get the dutch style village outskirts but then you get a more populated cobbled streets location with more houses as they push into Bruhl.

Then you get to the bit I'm up to where you join the militia proper, this is all kicking off in the capital (which kinda reminds me of Alexandria from FFX however, circular, big focal point castle at one end yet 1935's in look and feel). I've been pitched into a riverside battle, lots of ruined houses, pure concrete and stone. Also its kinda foggy and gloomy.

So a bit of variety there, and I will guess there is more to come based on the peoples Potentials. Squad members get buffs depending on situation, one of my bods started screaming "ARRRGH! POLLEN!" thanks to their Hayfever Potential and I'd taken them near a load of grass. Some guys love cities, some the country. Some chatter too much if stationed with a friend, others hate being cooped up in a camp. Even though the game is simple to get to grips with (the levelling and weapons upgrade methods takes away the need for micromanaging, a major plus) there is a good amount of depth to the play. Also there is a massive amount of depth to the story, you get a perspective from a reporter who is doing a piece on the war, each squad member has a biography you can read up about. Loads of stuff! All this, and I've barely even got started.

The cutscenes don't drag on, and there is a windowed style variety where even though its voiced, if you've read the text, you can X forward through each snippet of it. Plus the cutscenes are kept to their own "panel" in the book so if you want to retry a fight, you can just dive into it. Plenty of choice there for the impatient, or those who want to indulge.

I found the tank a little hard to move in the section I was in, but I think I was just getting to grips with its movement. I don't have a problem with the entire "can only crouch behind sandbags and grass" thing. The battlefields and strewn with stuff you could theoretically hide behind meaning that it would be far too easy to cover your way to your objectives in safety, with the same applicable to the enemy. The cover locations are nicely strategically placed so that you have to think about how and when you are going to advance.

Certainly have no qualms about the look and feel of the game though. If you check the thread in the forums, you can see me going on about concerns that the game might be a bit bland, only to be thoroughly proved wrong once I got in.

Yeah, its great. Really!
