New tyres for Forza 2

Fresh update on Live.

Developer Turn 10 has released a new patch for Forza 2 on Xbox Live.

It addresses a number of problems, noticeably Auction House bugs and some other issues currently being badly abused by naughty people getting no dinner tonight. You'll have to download it if you plan on playing over Xbox Live.

The only way you'll be able to sell or gift a car with a locked livery now is if you're the original owner, effectively stamping out duplicate designs whipped-up by cheeky copycats. And those of you asking for an unlocked camera while viewing potential purchases have had your prayers answered - and should now be able to ogle over the roof-job, too.

Turn 10 also pointed out that numerous "under-the-hood" Auction House bugs had been addressed, which could have potentially lost you all your dough and even your cars.

Scoreboards have had an overhaul thanks to various problems like AI not relinquishing control of the cars quick enough after a rolling-start, and more cheeky-monkeys exploiting more cheeky physics bugs - resulting in ridiculous lap times clearly impossible if you're playing by the rules.

That pesky Lotus Elan has been temporarily banned, too, because it was accidentally underrated due to a calculation error and is actually much better than the other cars in its class.

Hosts can't boot players mid-race any more, either, because yes - some sillies were exploiting it and hoofing people out if the stakes were high and they weren't going to win.

But it isn't all bug-fixes and patches, and Turn 10 expects more content to be available in the coming weeks.

"We definitely have DLC up our sleeves and will release a series of car packs and new tracks starting in August and running probably through a good chunk of fall," reads the post on the official website. "Forza Motorsport 2 is definitely here to stay."

Sounds like they've responded to customer feedback. Good job.

How the hell does blocking people from selling locked liveries cure anything? Fact is there would still be the exact same amount of those designs out there that the original desgner created. The only thing it would be doing is forcing buyers into keeping a car they might not no longer want, preventing them from selling it.

It would make more sense to do this with unlocked liveries.

    Fucking stupid.....

Well, it's nice to see such support for a game after it went on sale. But it did sell bucketloads.

Any news on the crashes that people had. I remember a lot of people complainig abiout the game crashing or freezing up. has that been fixed?

  • RexRunti #5 5 years ago

Can't you just repaint the car?
  • SomaticSense #6 5 years ago

So if you repaint it you can then sell it? I suppose that does solve it then.

Although if it still blocks you from selling despite wiping the design, then something's wrong. Will have to test it.

Forza 2 is a terrific if visually disappointing game but it desperately needs new tracks. Most of the current ones are from the old game so they were already overfamiliar from me having played the previous game to death. What new tracks there are are far outnumbered by the old ones which surely isn't acceptable for a sequel, a next-gen one at that?

And now we have to pay £4-7 on top of the £45 we paid for the game to actually play these new tracks which should have been in the game in the first place. Turn 10 should have been selling the original tracks as downloads not the new ones in my opinion.

    I agree about the tracks.

What pissed me off more than anything was the blatant, and purposefully misleading use of the term "tracks" in all the PR.
They outright said there were 50 odd "tracks", when in actual fact there are only about 12, and shouldn't have been using this terminology and instead should have been quoting 'ribbons' or 'circuit layouts'. Using the term "tracks" for every tiny little difference in each of the circuits is the complete wrong racing terminology, and was used only to mislead people into thinking there were more than there really were.

Anyway, if the Ferrari 599, DBR9, New Civic Type R, and Jag XKR aren't in the packs, then there is something wrong.

"We definitely have DLC up our sleeves and will release a series of car packs and new tracks starting in August and running probably through a good chunk of fall"

I wish they'd do brands hatch - that'd be sweet.

Microsoft definitely have a good racket going here: Sack your in-house test team, then charge full price to your customers and let them do the testing for you.

Fortunately, we don't have to put up with this kind of crap on other games consoles.
  • superdelphinus #13 5 years ago

what makes you think they mean 'new tracks' in the way that most of us would take 'new tracks' to mean? It'll probably be a pack of 18 different ways to get around maple valley

    @mothra

Because there have been no updates to motorstorm have there... oh wait.

Edit: Not that i'm against updates or anything. I think they can be a legitamite way to improve unforseen problems or add functionality as in this case, MotorStorm, halo2 etc. If they start releasing unfinished games and then patching them to an exceptable standard I will not be happy (you know who are older PC games).

    @m0thr4
Then soon you will learn. This is just the way the business model is going. As I don't tie my ego into a brand, I own all current gens, and as such agree that this hasn't happened yet on some other platforms, however this is mainly because there are no games.

The purchasing of content later on is sadly here to stay, and if people seriously think *all* the big names won't milk it for all it's worth, you're simply fooling yourself. With any luck (hrhr) we'll see the "shell" games being sold off slightly cheaper, with companies making their money through content. Then, those not stupid enough to buy horse armour, will get a better deal.

It's crap, I agree, but when people are paying for "gamer pics", and themes, and horse armour, and utter nonsense.. who in their right mind would not exploit that.. ;-)
  • Raziel #16 5 years ago

I wont be buying it unless there's quite some new tracks, cause the currents ones are boring me to death.

Or there's the Mitsubishi Concept X...
  • SomaticSense #17 5 years ago

    San Francisco???

All will be forgiven if they include all variations of the Circuit de la Sarthe circuit. And a couple more F1 tracks would be nice (Silverstone is bland as fuck).
  • JackofALLtrades #18 5 years ago

Where the hell are the great tracks from the first game, the up hill/down hill, the shipping yards and highways, the inner city and proper NY circuit, tokyo, rio etc
  • citizenHUNTER #19 5 years ago

New York in Forza 2 is dull as hell, and I hope they don't plan on adding in any more cities, cos they look (and play) pants next to PGR which is where I'll go for my fix of city driving... As for the circuits it does have, Silverstone, Suzuka and Mugello are amazing tracks, really fun to drive round, for REAL drivers ;p I just want more of those kinds of tracks, and yes, Brands Hatch would do nicely. If they add any more oval circuits though I might cry, and hopefully you'll be able to buy each circuit individually, same with cars, rather than force you to pay for stuff you don't want just to get the one thing you do want. Hopefully though they forgot that they can charge and give away a hefty amount of extra content for free, which is how it should be in an ideal world anyways.

Top Gear circuit as dlc please
  • Scimarad #21 5 years ago

Let us play the music while racing! I know I can have a custom soundtrack but the one that comes with the game is good...

I agree that the tracks in this game can get incredibly dull very quickly. They aren't bad tracks but there need to be a lot more of them!
  • chronom4n #22 5 years ago

Personally, i am very disappointed that they did not put in Road america as that is an astounding track in FM1.

Just the level of grip available on some of the corners was sweet.

and what were they thinking when they said that we could not play the original soundtracks during the actual gameplay.
  • LOLLERS #23 5 years ago

The problem with Brands is that it's really narrow, most people have trouble getting round Silverstone in an online race without crashing into people! Le Mans would be great though and perfect for the many, many prototype cars in the game, you would have thought.

I'd also like to see Spa, and the Istanbul F1 track is a good circuit too, although that's owned by Bernie Ecclostone now so probably has a huge license attached.

I like the end of the lap on the New York circuit but the other 95% is very dull, it seems strange there are no other routes for that track. Surely they could do that as free DLC? Even if they just added another block of the city to go round it would be hugely more interesting!
  • drunkymonkey #24 5 years ago

I agree that the Top Gear test track would be heaven. Maybe even have Clarkson making snidey comments when you spin off? :o
  • NegativeZero #25 5 years ago

I can understand making it impossible to sell cars with locked livery unless you own them somewhat, but why the fuck can't you gift them? What's wrong with, say, me buying a custom-painted car for a friend and then gifting it to them? Isn't that the whole fucking point of having 'gifting' at all?
  • citizenHUNTER #26 5 years ago

Ahhh SPA, yes! Le Mans too, good ideas. Let's hope they don't announce crap tracks, or more made up ones, i'd rather have real world please.
  • asphaltcowboy #27 5 years ago

Well, generally good news! Now I can finally finish my GH2 skin!
