New Total War for February 2010 News

PC News by Robert Purchese

19 August, 2009

SEGA and Creative Assembly have announced Napolean: Total War, a new game that aims to take the acclaimed strategy series in a fresh, story-driven direction.

Due out in February 2010, Napolean focuses on the life of Monsieur Bonaparte, splitting it into three campaigns. We'll see the the legendary Frenchman's early years in Italy and Egypt, before following his surge to Moscow and eventually playing-out his showdown with the Duke of Wellington at The Battle of Waterloo. And you will be able to rewrite history as you see fit.

Exact gameplay feature are not mentioned, although Creative Assembly promises to take the Empire mechanics "a step further".

Platforms are not specified, although we assume PC to be the focus.

Head over to our Napolean: Total War gallery for the first screenshots, and keep your eyes peeled on Eurogamer TV for an imminent trailer.

Bah! Why must it be Napoleon! Can't we have Wellington instead?

Hmm... I'm not convinced. As an expansion to Empire, this might be okay, I suppose... as a standalone? Just more cashcowing frankly. I'd quite like to see CA first finish making Empire.

And if it's limited to just playing as Napoleon and the French... it might just be very very limited.

Just an excuse to sell an expansion with a full game price tag. Either way I'm playing it :P

Presumably there'll be a Peninsula Campaign and Waterloo I'd have thought?
Also, innokenti is right. When it is possible to end a single war vs the AI, Napoleon will be more welcome.

I'll definitely play this, but I wish Empires could be fixed first. So frustrating to play a great game that crashes during every session.

This will probably be the first Total War game I don't buy. Medieval and ancient world is more my thing - I've very little interest in the more recent time periods, and the state of Empire on launch really disappointed me.

Well, I like Empire and haven't had many issues with it (admittedly I only bought it a few weeks ago and it did some patching before I played). But a detailed set of Napoleon campaigns sounds perfect as a standalone expansion. Although as a full-price project I'm not quite as sure.

I'm liking the direction this series is taking. Release a complete mess of a game one year, that doesn't even work on a basic level for (what seems) the majority of your paying customers, then quickly follow it up with a cash-in barely a year later having not bothered to fix your last game. Very, very admirable.

Seriously though, is there new management at CA these days or something? Maybe a shady cabal of evil businessmen who cackle maniacally whenever some poor sucker buys their product? How could anybody consider Empire: Total War a game fit for release? Not just upon its release, but now - nearly six months later! It still crashes every single time I play it. Every.... Single.... Time.... Jesus Christ!

Not on my shopping list. I downloaded the £1.99 extra units pack - but you are limited to having just 1 unit of each! An expansion would have been better in my view

Why do game reviews get so hung up on graphics ?
