New Thief game on the way?

Eidos website seems to suggest so.

Rumours are swirling that a fourth instalment in the Thief series is in development.

It's all thanks to a new image appearing on the Eidos Montreal website. A big question mark appears next to the message, "Eidos-Montreal's second project to be revealed soon."

Nothing particularly Thiefy about that - until you realise, as some eagle-eyed forum posters did, that the font used looks familiar. Yes, it's the same one used in previous Thief games.

Just to add extra intrigue the text above the image reads, "The two games [Eidos Montreal has] in development will resurrect successful franchises like Deus Ex and our next project soon to be revealed..." Gosh.

Eidos has yet to confirm or deny whether all this hintiness does indeed point towards a new Thief title, but we'll keep you posted.

    You linked to a forum discussion about how the fonts are not the same as evidence that they are the same?

    Please read a page before you link to it :/

    @cragtek, @DrDamn

    Oh dont get me wrong, I want this more than anything. I just dont want to get my hopes up for nothing that's all. Thief is indeed one of the greatest franchises I have ever played.

    I really hope Eidos (or shall I say square now) would resurrect their old IPs, Legacy of Kain, Fear Effect all have great potential.

    They have only got a couple od decent franchises, so I would be surprised if it wasnt.

    Good news though.

    @DrD re: getting the original for Xbox.

    There was a critical bug with Thief 3 which reset the AI to default difficulty as soon as you changed level or saved. It was patched on PC but I don't think they patched the Xbox version as it wasn't a network-enabled Live title.

    If they did patch the Xbox version please let me know as I'd happily play it again on the big telly. It was designed for Xbox after all and would feel better with a gamepad. I think you can get it from Gamestation for a fiver.

    Thief 4: Assassin's Greed?

    Using gesture tech in a Thief game is surely the way forward.

    I'm currently replying Thief: Deadly Shadows on my PC, and despite the naysayers I still find it just as awesome as I did when I first played it.

    Although admittedly it does lose a few things compared to it''s predecessors (smaller levels being a main gripe, although it wasn't as bad as some people made out), the general atmosphere is stlll top notch, and I can only hope that any sort of sequel they might have planned would at least live up to that.

    I'd personally fear for it though if none of the original crew are involved in the design of any possible sequel.

    @CountFapula,

    I'd recommend picking it up on PC instead and then going here http://ww w.john-p.com/textures/Thief-DS/... and using the texture packs. Makes a world of difference.

    I was certain it was Thief 4 anyway, and that's ignoring all this font nonsense. Glad to hear it's being announced soon though.

    Cool! I always liked the Thief games... I'd be surprised if they don't pick up some of the hints and tips from Assassins Creed, hopefully it'll be an improvement over the last one and save the series from slow decline.

    They'd better get Steven Russell back to do Garrett's voice or they can cram it. I never realised he was Karras too. Damn he's good, why doesn't he get more decent v/o work instead of all these shit celebs badly voicing Dreamworks movies?

    There's no justice.

    That's one down (if confirmed).

    Now where's 47 ?

    More sneaky-sneaky-stabby-stabby please.
