Teenage Mutant Turtles game unveiled News

DS Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Ellie Gibson

27 January, 2009

Ubisoft has announced plans to publish a new game starring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Titled TMNT: Smash Up, it will be released to celebrate the turtles' 25th anniversary but won't tie-in with any particular movie, TV show or comic book.

The game is a four-player fighter being developed by Game Arts, the studio behind Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Ubisoft has yet to confirm which consoles it's in development for, but hasn't done a very good job of covering its tracks by suggesting people check out the next issue of Nintendo Power magazine for more info.

TMNT: Smash Up is due out this "fall" in the US.

UPDATE: A Ubisoft spokesperson has confirmed to Eurogamer that the autumn date also applies to Europe, and that the game is in development for Wii.

its a bit misleading to call game arts the "super smash bros. brawl studio" really. some staff from game arts handled "the main part of preliminary development" (according to masahiro sakurai, here) and indeed even ubisoft's press release only says they "worked on" it. i'd say they're more known for the grandia and lunar rpg series than anything else, so it'll be interesting to see how this turns out.
