New Star Wars game to be announced?

Award ceremony teaser would suggest so.

A new Star Wars game looks set to be announced at this year's Video Game Awards ceremony.

That's one way of looking at a new Spike TV teaser video, anyway. Over footage of previous SW games a voice says, "You've seen every film over 200 times, you know the Skywalkers better than your own family, you have a stronger knowledge of the Force than Yoda himself - but one thing you don't know is what's next. Find out at the 2009 Video Game Awards."

Said Awards are being held on 12th December so expect more news then. Will it be a sequel? A brand new franchise? Or just another class or something for Star Wars: The Old Republic? Clouded, the future is etc.

    Battlefront 3.

    Come on, you didn't really think they were going to let their investment in FRD's efforts go without a fight, given that BFII was the highest grossing Star Wars game until TFU?

    My bet is that they picked up the assets and continued in-house.

    Although personally I wished that they were doing Republic Commando 2 . . .

    All I'm gonna be able to think about now until the 12th is Battlefront 3.

    / knows he'll be wrong and it will be The Force Uninteresting 2, Lego Really Bad Christmas Special or something Clone Wars - therefore shit and aimed a 3 year olds.

    It'll probably a motion based lightsaber game for the PS3 wand/natal.....just to show Nintendo how much they hate them.

    I really hope its a new Republic Commando, I really rather enjoyed it and felt it was somewhat under appreciated at the time.

    I felt the pacing in it was spot on, OK the squad mate AI could have been slightly better done but there is something inherently cool about being a clone trooper :)

    UI was pretty cool too if i remember correctly.

    X-wing vs Tie fighter crossed with Elite so that I can play a smuggler/bountyhunter/trader and go wherever I want trading and killing in the star wars universe. Please.

    A game based on being an Ewok and raising a little Ewok family before being over-run and destroyed by the empire.

    I know that was probably a joke, but I'd quite enjoy a Settlers-style Ewok village-building game. Maybe make it Wookiees if you wanna appeal to the hardcore tho ;-)

    Actually why on earth doesn't that game exist yet, sort of Privateer II but set in the Star Wars universe. I'd buy that, hell I'd buy any half decent new space sim if they made one (unless it's actually an MMO).

    I'd imagine its not been made cos more 5 year olds would buy the Ewok Settlers/ Ninjawa comedy game ideas, than the actual fans who hate the prequel rubbish and would love a serious star wars game built and designed with the old Lucas Arts ethos.

    Jedi Knight 3 would be a good one to go with (not that lucas arts has any clue anymore). Even Jedi academy 2 with the force unleashed engine would be a nice thing to see. The mission structure of academy with the moves from unleashed (with the addition of decapitations for the lightsabre strikes) would be an instant seller. Given all of this it's more likely to be some totally unwanted piece of starwars crap like Jar Jar Binks sand dune racing extravaganza.

    Edit: Ok I just watched the spike thing. It's for the old republic MMO so what the heck is this article talking about!

    Oh please let it be Battlefront 3. I've been waiting and hoping we'd get one this generation and if it turns out to be Battlefront I'll be even happier it's being prepared at this stage of the console cycle when they've really got a better grip on the tech.

    Much in the same way I wish Oblivion had been launched around now.

    How about a 3rd person action game,based on original trilogy. Like an update of the "super" star wars series on Snes. But with added flyingy bits. Put Simply - make a good game, that is representative of the good films? capiche?

    Personally I'd love a really well done Rogue Sqadron on next gen. I want that feeling of awe i had on Hoth taking down ATATs in my snowspeeder on gamecube. Most of the game was pants but a few of those levels really made me feel like I was part of those original films.

    Considering every studio that has touched BF3 has closed, I doubt it will be that sadly. I'm going to put my money on a new Clone Wars tie in, I hope I'm wrong. A new X-wing or TIE Fighter would be great.

    This can only be one of three things.

    1: Battlefront 3
    2: yet another squeezing from the "Star Wars fan fiction" hat Lucas created a few years back (aka prequel/clone wars shit)
    3: a combination of 1 and 2.

    Even though I'm a huge Star Wars geek, I just can't get excited about Lucas' Star Wars fan fiction stuff. Star Wars is, was and always will be about Rebels and Stormtroopers no matter what Lucas says to the contrary.

    I certainlt think there should be scope for telling a story set after episode 6. I think it's time they explored it officially, I know there are a lot of books about it, but I meant a proper continuation.

    We know there will never be any new films exploring it, and games seem like the perfect medium to do it. Mark Hamill could still do the voices right?

    I don't think they'd be doing such a big announcement for another Clone Wars game, as much as I do actually like the series, the majority of the audiance of that show won't be watching something like this. I think it's most probably a post-prequel game, perhaps even a sequel to Force Unleashed.

    Marris Brood was very obviously set up as the next main character, although I'd hope they'd just retconn the ending. It was dire.

    there are a lot of games i would like this to be Tie Fighter Vs X-wing game,Jedi Knight,Republic Commando 2,KOTOR3,...or even a Rogue Squadron game...i wasn't that impressed with The Force Unleashed,so i would be disappointed if its TFU2

    but anyway Star Wars Battlefront 3 tops that list...2005 was the last Console SWBF game,not even this gen,so its about time it happened

    funny,as a few months ago,there was leaked Star Wars Battlefront 4 concept art...so either they are gonna release 3 and 4 pretty close to each other or they are gonna miss out number 3 altogether,which would be pretty dumb

    rogue squadron 4 would be fantastic, or a continuation of the jedi knight series. they just dont make sw games like they used to...
