Somehow I managed to misread it as well :)

Car models in this are looking excellent though.

    Quite impressive.

Reminds me of Grid. I wonder if these screens are 100% in game, or if someone's giving them a spruce up...? Very nice, either way.

But PD ignores AI, so that's out.

In theory, ex SimBin guys + fancy graphics = ultimate driving game.

Why cant you quote people here.

Anyway this does look rather good. If it means a few less tracks and cars, I am happy with that.

But SimBin haven't got a clue when it comes to career structure or track design.

Let's just hope they can finally sort the handling, and remove the NFS curse of great visuals at the expense of playable frame rates. Honestly, the last game was the most embarrassing mess of slowdown I have ever played.
  • polaris70 #10 3 years ago

Well, I read somewhere that this game has a brand spanking new engine. I'm not saying there wont be slowdown but because the last game had slowdown doesn't mean this game will.

I recently had the chance to play this, courtesy of EG, and it really does look that good when up and running - I raced in grids of only up to 8 cars, but it was silky smooth, and the track design and handling was absolutely top notch - the sort of thing you'd expect from Simbin, but not at all from NFS.

The 'head motion' gimmick, where acceleration and deceleration pushes and pulls your point of view, was also intriguing - initially a little offputting, but quickly it all felt pretty natural.

The AI is also alleged to be working on a system of like and dislikes - so you build up rivalries with people you smash into, but this just resulted in what felt like unmanageable shunts from someone you may have accidentally scraped paint with on a previous corner.

The build I played was pre-alpha or something, so early doors.

The driver design got me thinking: how bizarre that a fictional game that lets you do fictional stuff obliges you to play with a driver wearing a helmet! Why? So that when, in real life, I jump in my million dollar race car and start burning laps in the city I live in, I won't forget to do the same as in game?

Djeez! It's so emotionless and less immersive when the character that represents me in game is totally unindetifyable(?) for me. I want to choose between real people that grimace, look scared or laugh hysterically when making a particular close corner or something. Give me emotion!

Having actually played this I can tell you they aren't renders, although I'm sure their artists and graphics programmers will be happy people think they are :-)
