Jovovich confirms it via Twitter.

Milla Jovovich, star of the Resident Evil films, has confirmed the release of the next instalment in the series has been delayed.

"So I think we r definitely pushing the film till jan '11," she wrote on her Twitter page. "Boo! But we can't rush it and hve crappy effects, so know it will rock!"

Resident Evil: Afterlife, the first RE film made using 3D technology, had been due to launch in August 2010. However, ShockTillYouDrop.com reported a delay was on the cards.

Jovovich initially denied the report, stating, "RE Afterlife is NOT officially pushed... For the moment it's still on for August." Looks like things have changed, however.

I have to admit I enjoyed RE1 and RE3 films. They are not good at all, but still entertaining enough for those evenings where all you want to do is watch a film without using half your brain.

Is there no chance of a decent director, using decent actors, with a decent script? The game has laid the tracks surely someone with a lttle talent could knock out a pretty tense indie version of this? Something more like 28days later?

Not too bothered to see a new live action RE. I'd be much more partial to seeing another CGI film like Degeneration. It mightn't have been a classic by any means, but it was an enjoyable throwback to the days of RE2 and 3 (the games).

The RE movies always strike me as action movies, not zombie movies. I quite like 'em, but am less fond of the traditional zombie movie (eg, ... of the dead, except Shaun, of course!). They fall down if you try and link them too much to the video games (the names and characters seem shared, but the plots divert quite wildly), but if you watch them as action movies, there's quite a lot worse out there. Albeit most with Steven Segal in.

i liked the 1st and 3rd RE films... my brain tells me not to ever think about the 2nd one tho. It took some getting used to the 1st one as its a zombie film with no blood or gore, so yeah, probably best approached as a action film series re: zombies.

I consider the 3rd one to actually be good so i would definately check out a no.4... and milla ofc.

I thought Resi 1 was good, cant really remember the rest that well, the last one (I think) with the birds was pretty dire.

If you watch them expecting a faithful film version of the games you're going in with the wrong idea. Of course they're going to big it up but I look at them as just trashy but watchable action films.
