New Resi coming to Wii this winter

Plus: GameCube titles set for a re-release.

Wii exclusive Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles has been confirmed for a UK and US release this winter.

As reported yesterday, it's an on-rails shooter with a storyline based around Resident Evil 2. Leon S. Kenney and Claire Redfield will star, and a two-player co-op mode is promised. The Darkside Chronicles will also feature a new Evade system to help you when fighting enemies.

In addition, Capcom announced plans to bring GameCube titles Resident Evil and Resident Evil Zero to Wii under the "Classics" banner. Both have been redesigned to suit the Wii remote and are set to launch this year, priced at US 29.99 in the States. The European price has yet to be announced.

Is this what I think it is?

    Milking?
  • twh104 #2 3 years ago

Well I kind of expected they would bring REmake and RE0 to Wii, although seperate releases? More suited to a 29.99 Double pack (like GTA3&VC on Xbox)

"In addition, Capcom announced plans to bring GameCube titles Resident Evil and Resident Evil Zero"

I know it's milking, but I'm still loving this. Proper Wii games at least, for those that missed them on the Cube.

resi 4 was improved considerably with wii mote control, remakes of 1 and 0 i don't think will be worth buying.
  • ArcMonkey #5 3 years ago

As long as the price is right, its good news for people who missed them on the cube. But why not a proper NEW game? I wonder what it will take to convince developers to create something new and exciting on the Wii. Not that there aren't any new and exciting games out already, but they are few and far between.
  • carrotcake #6 3 years ago

these were released in japan already so it's cool they're coming elsewhere. I'll get 'em, they're brilliant. never finished zero on the cube.
  • el_vicio #7 3 years ago

I'm still pissed that they have no RE2 remake in the works - that would even be more fitting to the REmake and RE0 line....GAH!

I must be feeling 'very happy' now.

"re-releasing all these games under the classics banner stinks of Nintendo panicking that they don't have a decent software line up this year. "

Um, this is Capcom; did they get bought out by Nintendo when I wasn't looking?
  • LazyDan #10 3 years ago

Get used to it - while the global downturn keeps on turnin', publishers are going to be far less likely to want to risk the massive expense of new releases even moreso than they are usually. Especially in the Wii's case where polished up old games will look new to a large portion of its largely casual audience.

Considering that both Resident Evil Remake and Resident Evil Zero use pre-rendered 2D backgrounds with fixed camera angles, I cannot quite fathom how Wiimote controls are going to make this any better to play on the Wii. Resident Evil 4 worked because that was a proper 3D game with a moving third-person over-the-shoulder camera.

"anyone else wondering if the Wii "gimmick" is running out of steam?

re-releasing all these games under the classics banner stinks of Nintendo panicking that they don't have a decent software line up this year. "
No, and with Nintendo having games which sell consistantly well for years and not a few weeks I doubt they're panicking. Just another way of making money out of existing properties, although surely it's Capcom doing the milking and not Nintendo.

"personally, i got put off the Wii all together after Super Mario gave me RSI, holding a controller like that for any longer than a few minutes is not natural. "
If you can't hold a light object up for more then a few minutes without suffering from pain then I think you really need to get some exercise, the words extremely unfit come to mind.
  • Der_tolle_Emil #13 3 years ago

Well why not. Re-releasing the remakes doesn't hurt anybody and definitely won't delay any of the other Capcom games since they are already done. Those who missed it back then will be glad if they are interested, especially if they keep the low price point for Europe as well.

@designerheadache "personally, i got put off the Wii all together after Super Mario gave me RSI, holding a controller like that for any longer than a few minutes is not natural."

Holding a controller like what??? Please don't tell me you were holding the controller in the air or at arms length. You just need to rest it on your lap/leg like any other controller.
  • bmxbandit #15 3 years ago

Lazy bastards ... both Nintendo AND Capcom. The two of them are total rehash wastejobs these days.
  • bad09 #16 3 years ago

How the hell will that work??

Hey Capcom why not spread the love, give some old skool resi to the HD consoles!

Come now.. you dont actually believe he played the game do you?

EDIT: If using a wii controller makes your arms hurt - then i suggest you need to stop playing games and go down your local gym and do some excercise.. Start on something light if i was you.. try bench pressing a pencil.

    Note: wanking is not exercise.
  • figaro7 #20 3 years ago

Capcom, releasing remakes since 2002. Seriously shove your ports and bring us some new games, luckily Umbrella chronicles 2 looks good!
  • Malek86 #21 3 years ago

Don't care about RE0 and RE1, already have them both. UC2 might actually be interesting, as long as they sort out the (many) problems of the first one.
  • Bulbatron #22 3 years ago

I wonder how they have been 'redesigned' to suit the Wii remote. Will it be possible to use the GameCube controller, like you can on Resident Evil 4 if, like me, you're too retarded to use the Wii remote and nunchuk.

Will the graphics be given any kind of update, or will it be visually identical? I don't care if it is - REmake is AMAZING!

I'd love to see a port of at least REmake on Live or PSN for PS3 users.

REmake and RE Zero for the Wii are exact ports or better re(re)releases of the Cube versions just with an optional Wiimote Point'n'Click controlscheme.

Everyone who has the Cube versions can leave them out without regrets.

Yeah, but it surely also means no more swapping discs half-way through? Now THAT is the technology of the future - and well worth shelling out for! :-)
  • Genji #25 3 years ago

Why are people talking about the ports so much? Hello? There's a NEW GAME coming out too!

I hope it lasts for longer than UC did.
