New Ratchet game to get two demos News

News by Ellie Gibson

2 October, 2009

Insomniac Games has revealed that two playable demos are on the way for Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time.

The news comes from community manager James Stevenson, speaking in the latest Insomniac podcast.

"There are going to be what looks like two downloadable demos," he said. "Originally there was going to be one that had a Ratchet level and a Clank level, but it really got too big for people to download easily with both those sets of assets.

"So it sounds like there will be two demos. One will be the Ratchet demo and one will be the Clank demo... So that'll be fun."

Stevenson didn't offer an exact release date for the demos, but did say they'll be out "a week or two" before the full game goes on sale. That'll be 27th October in the US, with a Euro date yet to be announced.

Would love a demo. I'll still buy the game anyways. Love R&C!

Why does one game get two demos, while so many games on the store don't even have one?

Wait a second. Did I read that correctly. There isn't yet a european date for Ratchet and Clank? Why isn't it just out on the friday like normal or did they forget to have it translated?!?

Lovely-jubbly! :)

Along with Uncharted 2, this is the other game I really want to play this year so one demo would have been great but two? Well, I can't complain about that. Odd that two levels are so big that they can't fit into one reasonably sized demo though; I guess Insomniac Games must be really making the most of that Blu-ray format then for the full game... are they still using high-quality 1080p pre-rendered FMV for the cinematics by any chance?

No need to try the ratchet demo, I already know that'll be great. The clank aspect will be worth a try though.

You are entitled to your opinion......but you're wrong.

Ratchet and Clank is probably my most played game on the PS3.

Very nice idea. I just wish I had enough money to buy it (the game obviously). I promise I'll buy it someday.

@cianchristopher - I think both Insomniac Games and Naughty Dog are two of the best development houses on the PS3, and I've read that they share info and ideas with each other. Resistance and Ratchet & Clank might not be ground-breaking games but they're technically excellent and very good fun to play, especially the latter IMO. I think it's very unfair to refer to them as "crap" developers.

@Darren & Goodfella:
Well, that's, just, like, my opinion, man...... ;)
But, I'll clarify my point. I think Insomniac are a poor-man's Naughty Dog. They may well share tech, but there's a clear difference in the quality of their output.(the Resistance series is so hum-drum and by-the-numbers that the only reason it gets touted as a shining example of the PS3 library is because of a lack of competitors on the system).

@cianchristopher clearly the game isnt aimed at your more sophisticated tastes then ;-)

Its a fun game that doesnt take itself too seriously and does exactly what it needs to do in a great way.

Which easily puts it in the top 10% of games on any system, especially in the sea of dross titles such as Matt Hazard and Haze.

Because of the lack of competitors on the system?

far cry 2, COD MW, COD 5, Killzone, bioshock? and a whole bunch of other fps games. think you'll find there's plently of competition on the ps3, Resistance is highly rated because they just are technically good games

Yeah, but I'm talking about exclusives (which many people "big-up" due to their exclusive nature). So, from launch until the release of Killzone 2, the two Resistance games were the premium FPS games for the PS3. And..... they were bland and unimaginative (in my opinion of course, other's will have differing views).

I think that the main reason the Resistance games are/were rated so highly was because they were the PS3's Halo (for all intents and purposes).

Now, I have had the pleasure of playing some of the best FPS games out there (Half-Life, The Orange Box, Halo 3, Far Cry, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4, Crysis, Killzone 2, etc.) and IMHO Resistance does not deserve to be feted alongside those games. It is not in the same league.

cianchristopher: By saying they are unimaginative you are ignoring the whole Insomniac love for guns. Clearly you are quite ignoring the fact that Resistance has some well developed innovative new weapon designs that neither Orange Box nor Halo 3 offers. Or you don't like innovative weapon designs ? I will agree so far with you that Insomniac should be better to use their visions in their games with that i mean to say, they should be better to make the people want to use all the different weapons and make them matter more in a gameplay sense. however i can't take you serious if you mean that Insomniac don't have some innovative new ideas. they just need to translate them better in gameplay perspektive. I feel that the weapons are more for show and less for substance however it would be a terrible waste to say those weapons are useless because i clearly imagine them being quite fun done the right way.

i enjoyed the last R&C demo, and that was quite large (1.5Gb or so if i recall) but ended up not getting the game as i wasn't sure how much i'd actually play it, may pick it up for cheap before Crack in Time comes out, whenever that may be.

Resistance never really did it for me from a narrative perspective, i completed 1 but was never that sold on the series, didn't touch the multiplayer and so on, and passed on 2 completely. technically speaking it came across as a proficient series, just lacked a compelling narrative in my mind, or maybe the era they've set it in puts me off, either way its something outside of the immediate gameplay that doesn't do it for me.

Don't act like an idiot kid, just don't do that. You came here to post useless shit that doesn't have anything to do with Ratchet and Clank in the first place. Then you started yo talk about Resistance and the FPS games you played. Now, sorry, but the really retarded person in here is you. You don't like the Ratchet and Clank series and like FPS games instead? Nice, good for you, just STFU and GTFO from this RATCHET AND CLANK ARTICLE.

Always enjoyed the Rachet & Clank games, and although I'd agree with cianchristopher they haven't moved on from the last generation in terms of gameplay I don't mind to much as we have a real lack of solid platforming games atm.

Resistance 2 was pretty much saved due to the brilliant 8 player co-op, I felt Insomniac really pulled of a master stroke with that one as the single player wasn't that great.
