New Prince of Persia given basic date News

PC DS Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Robert Purchese

15 May, 2008

Ubisoft has marked the freshly-unveiled Prince of Persia game on its schedule for release in its fiscal third quarter.

In real language, that means the PC, PS3, 360 and DS title will be out sometime between the beginning of October and end of December, which coincides nicely with its original forecast for "end of 2008".

Prince of Persia features a cel-shaded graphical style that represents a "more poetic vision" than we've seen previously in the series.

It's no relation of the excellent Sands of Time, despite being created by the same team, and sees you healing the land in an Okami and Shadow of the Colossus fashion by defeating boss guardians defending light wells.

Emphasis is on head-to-head battles with one other, rather than fending off crowds; think more Soul Calibur than God of War.

The Prince will also wield a spiked glove to help him slide along and jump from vertical surfaces. There will be some kind of special power unveiled in due course, but it won't be the much replicated Sands of Time.

Expect to hear more on the title at the upcoming UbiDays event, which takes place in Paris on 28th and 29th May.

Saw some screens of this recently. Looked really damn nice.

PoP:SoT mood and stylings + much better combat = awesome game, here's hoping.

I really hope they can capture that feel, is Jordan Mechner on board with this one? I usually don't give a crap about plot in games, but SoT's was so well woven in that it added loads to the atmosphere. I once played through SoT in single sitting. Sat down for a quick play and it turned into about 6.5 hours. The best part was that the sun started to come up as I reached the final stages, nicely synchronized with the game =)

for some reason I highly doubt it'll be out this year!

and I also highly doubt that it'll make an impact to the gaming world as sands of time did!

- sorry if u think this sounds depressing - I must hav emo poisoning from the last prince games - or im right!

P.S. I'm not emo

Seeing as I've thought the games have got worse with each instalment, I will wait and see with this.

And is it just me, or do they market all their games as 'developed by the team who made PoP: TSoT' these days? I'm sure they said it about The Two Thrones, and Ass Creed.

Although I don't see the need for a new PoP game, I'll wait and see if this is worth a fiddle.
