New Phoenix Wright spin-off on the way? News

DS News by Robert Purchese

9 April, 2008

Capcom is preparing a fresh take on courtroom drama by letting you play as a prosecutor in a spin-off to the Phoenix Wright series.

It's dubbed Perfect Prosecutor, according to Famitsu (translated by Weekly Games Journal), and it follows the adventures of Miles Edgeworth and Dick Gumshoe.

As Miles, you will have to scour crime scenes for inconsistencies and then present them to the court - sending bad, or maybe good people to prison. Let's hope you can make evidence up.

Not only will this be the first time you get to prosecute, but you will also be given a fresh search and deduction system to work with.

Capcom Europe is keeping its cards close to its chest on this one, and Famitsu has no date for Japan.

Yes! Please... Apollo Justice left me cold for some reason - this could be the perfect antidote to warm my cockles. :)

Yep left me cold too. Probably because we all liked Phoenix and this new guy was a damp squib with no back story compared to our Mr Wright.

Not sure how you'd have a penalty system with Edgeworthy though as he is the cool and collected prosecutor. The problem is that he NEVER won a case against Phoenix....ever...ever ever

As if you've not been playing prosecutor in all but name already through the entire series.

Excellent. I love the Phoenix Wright series. Still got Trials & Tribulations to play through.

I'm a bit worried about Apollo Justice. I'm just so used to the PW cast that I don't think I'll take to the new lot as easily.

I don't know - it was partly that, certainly - I think the script was slightly worse, the stories were slightly worse and the characters were slightly worse - leading to a game that was overall... slightly worse :) Plus, it was like the scripters had never played the last 3 games - they made Phoenix talk and behave like a completely different character.

I'm not sure if this sort of shameless self promotion is allowed, but I wrote a review of it for another site, so you can see my thoughts in more detail here: (though please delete this if it isn't allowed, my moderating friends)

Oh yes.

The implied homoeroticism might, very well, go straight through the roof if we get a game starring Edgeworth and Gumshoe, but it'll be awesome.

Aye, Apollo Justice was a bit disappointing. As everyone's said, Apollo was a bit of a non-entity compared to Phoenix Wright, a fact made glaringly obvious when the final villain of the game, during his "bad-guy breakdown", screams Wright's name in frustration, not Apollo's.

However, Miles Edgeworth was one of my favorite characters in the Phoenix Wright trilogy, and Dick Gumshoe was both hilarious and had the best theme-tune in the entire series. Definitely going to be counting down the days to this one :)

I ca pin Apollo Justice leaving me cold purely on the fact the last court section of the game was very short and you had to do barely anything. The flashback using the music from the first game was nice though...

Apollo Justice was actually a very good game. The only reason it feels "worse" is your comparing it three prior games, not a single game. Compared to the Phoenix Wright, and only the first Phoenix Wright, it really fares pretty well.

The last case could have been longer, but as for Apollo's background, I do believe the game more than hints that that will become a matter of major importance at some point. I think maybe, it would be most fair to hold off judging Apollo Justice when it's had a chance to tell it's clearly incomplete story. But of course, most people are impatient and whiny. This is the Eurogamer comments section after all. >_>

I loved AJ ! Found it better than T&T. But then again, every damn Ace Attorney game is a treat.

My fangirl alarm just went crazy.

Playing as Edgey in PW:T&T was IMO one of the best parts of the entire series. This is fantastic news, Edgey is such a great character, and so is Gumshoe.

I would absolutely buy this. While playing the Phoenixes, I often wondered how much it would be to turn the tables and become prosecutor in a full-fledged game. Capcom fills up the holes, and this time it's warmly welcomed. Of course, even though it's a spin-off, the dev crew should not skimp on the quality of the cases and the dialogue. That makes or breaks the game. In fact, that IS the game :)

And how cool would it be if there was a family visit by Franziska at some point :). And with that thought, I have to sign off as my brain is beginning to overload on double entendres and associated wordplay.
