New PAL Releases Roundup News

PC PlayStation 2 DS Wii
News by Tom Bramwell

15 May, 2008

After a couple of weeks of relative quiet, a week of absolute quiet. They may look loud, with names like "Terrorist Takedown 2: US Navy SEALs" and "Warhammer: Mark of Chaos - Battle March", but when Eurogamer's mad uncle Chart-Track blasts out his usual missive about sales performance next week we imagine he will be detailing the ongoing fortunes of the game currently hogging all of Brighton's bus shelter advertising spots, rather than Perry Rhodan or Crimes of War.

But what are these odd-sounding PC games? And where have they come from? Well, the odd ones are Art of Murder: FBI Confidential, Crimes of War and the aforementioned Terrorist Takedown 2, and they are all from Polish publisher City Interactive, which is busily trying to establish itself in the UK and from whom a nice-sounding lady called Diane called the other day offering review copies and release information.

We're glad we said yes, frankly, because having looked over the 2008 release schedule it appears that, if nothing else, City Interactive is set to lead the way in excellent game names. You'll want to be sitting comfortably on 13th June, for instance, in order to fully appreciate each of the GBP 4.99 first-person shooter trio that are Sniper: Art of Victory, Terrorist Takedown: Conflict in Mogadishu and the unlikely-to-be-equalled Code of Honour: The French Foreign Legion. That is, of course, assuming you've had enough of Overspeed: High Performance Street Racing.

Sadly though, none of those are out this week, so you might as well save up for next Friday when you will be able to buy Rock Band, or rather won't because it costs more than most games consoles, or more likely Haze or Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures. Look out for bundles of coverage of all of those, including a full review of the currently Xbox 360-exclusive PAL version of Rock Band, next week.

This week:

  • Art of Murder: FBI Confidential (PC)
  • Crimes of War (PC)
  • Dream Pinball 3D (Wii)
  • Iron Man (PC)
  • Perry Rhodan (PC)
  • Silent Hill Origins (PS2)
  • Terrorist Takedown 2: US Navy SEALs (PC)
  • Top Trumps: Doctor Who (PC, PS2, DS)
  • Warhammer: Mark of Chaos - Battle March (PC)

I'm reading a Perry Rhodan book right now... well, I was 5 minutes ago, I'm typing this right now. The screens I saw for it looked quite interesting, possibly more appealing than Mass Effect, don't know much about how it plays though.

I don't want Dream Pinball 3D I want Pinball Hall of Fame: Williams Edition; don't forget that the new Wii-Ware titles are out on Tuesday.

LOL!

"Strategic Flatulence Gladiator"

Wonder what kind of game would be behind that!? Turn based "fighting" in Rome with pea soup eating mini-games? :-o :D
