New PAL Releases Roundup

God of War III! Metro 2033! Dragon Age!

War! Lots more war to chomp down on this week, just in case the last few weeks of shooting people in the face have somehow left you malnourished.

Most notably, tomorrow marks the long-awaited launch of the phenomenal God of War III for PS3, capping off a strong old period for the console that only does everything. God of War III may only be a game about Kratos climbing a hill, but what a hill, and hey, it's Kratos.

Command & Conquer's Kane, king baddy of the bonkers RTS series, is also up to his old tricks this week, but it turns out Tiberian Twilight can't teach the old dog any good new ones, which is a pity, because this may be the last proper boxed C&C game we see for a long time, and Joe Kucan's a very nice chap.

It's not all doom and gloom for publisher EA this week though. Quite the contrary, in fact, as splendid Dragon Age expansion Awakening more than makes up for things. Darkrespawn!

Those are all big wars, then, but PC owners are also well served by futuristic, smaller-scale mutant-bashing - as are their Xbox 360 owning cousins - thanks to 4A Games' impressive debut, the THQ-published and 8/10-scoring Metro 2033. Fans of condensation, gas masks and tunnels will be in their element.

Online, meanwhile, there's the nostalgic pangs of the lovely Perfect Dark to explore on Xbox Live Arcade, while PSN users have the slightly unknown quantities that are Wakeboarding HD (mmm) and PSP title Patchwork Heroes (ooh) to consider - something we'll be doing in short order, at least in the latter's case.

To war!

  • Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight (PC)
  • Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening (PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

    Well I finally got my PS3 like i said I would. SKU that includes God of War III. I played about half hour yesterday on my day off. Ive turned it on since i woke up but I dont seem like playing yet. I will in a few hopefully. Bought Metro 2033 for my PC. Was thinking about gettinbg it for the 360 but PC is almost always my most clear choice when it comes to FPS games :) Metro is a really oddly great game. Go for it. God of War 3 is stunning. Yet for some reason im not happy with my SKU :( Dont know why. I might get over it soon ( hopefully ). I'll go play some, should help.

    @ Flabio

    Fragile Dreams, really?

    Quote from Nintendo Power Magazine - The developers have accomplished a rare feat in producing a game that is legitimately thought-provoking, original, and visually distinctive. Too bad they couldn't find a way to make it fun. 53/100

    My copy of God of War III should be arriving today from Shopto, can't wait!
  • jonsaan #5 2 years ago

    Patchwork heroes is on the PS3 too?

    Nice stealth change there EG.

    Poor old Metro 2033 is gonna have to wait a couple of weeks now. I foolishly tried the Total War demos for the first time this week. Now hooked on 'em and Metro got bumped.

    Big naval battles and a kebab tonight. Instant win \o/

    Hope everyone buying GOWIII has a lovely weekend - I hate it when a game comes out a week before payday and you are totally pratted. See you next week Kratos!

    It's Borderlands & Dantes Inferno for me this week
  • Flabio #11 2 years ago

    That Nintendo Power review is the lowest scoring one for Fragile so far on Metacritic. Doubt it's going to score many 9's though.
  • Doctor_What #12 2 years ago

    Scene It? Twilight for me this week.

    Only kidding, it's GOWIII.
  • mfnick #13 2 years ago

    #10 - Damn you!!

    Mine still hasnt been despatched :( I wouldnt recommend using thegamecollection.net for pre-orders.

    Played through first half or so of God of war 3 last night on my nabours PS3. Extremely violent but not as good as i thouth it would be. If i was 15 years old i probably would have loved it. Still good but i didnt like the simple combo system. Better than Dantes Inferno though. Not nearly as good as Bayonetta IMO. From now on until Splinter cell all my gaming hours will be spent on Metro and Perfect Dark.

    @Vertical Stand

    I have an image of EarlBasset as a bitter, failed games journalist who thinks he could do a much better job than everyone else and so criticises them for everything they do. Sort of like how many Drama Teachers are failed actresses and punish their students for not acting how they would in a role.
  • NotSoSlim #16 2 years ago

    @muscleblade

    Its God of War what did you expect? There has been 2 games previously so you should know how it plays by now don't you think? They have tweaked and streamlined the game and made it more fluid. If you expected a total revamp you have not read a single review
  • kinky_mong #17 2 years ago

    "Scene It? Twilight"?! WTF?! How many questions can be written about two crappy teen movies?
  • muscleblade #18 2 years ago

    @NotSoSlim

    Havent played the first two games you see so had nothing to compare it too rather than different games in same genre.
    Owned a Gamecube and Xbox last gen and borrowed my brothers PS2 for a few games but not GOW im afraid.
  • muscleblade #19 2 years ago

    @bad09

    Hmm. You didnt read a translated version of the Gamereactor review of Metro did you???
    PC version 7/10
    360 version 8/10

    Kind of funny imo.
  • RustyBullet #20 2 years ago

    Fuck me what a week. Just need some spondoolies now. How can i afford 4 games a week before pay day. Life is a bitch.
  • darkmorgado #21 2 years ago

    I keep buying games, but I never get round to playing them. Damn you World of Warcraft!
  • makeamazing #22 2 years ago

    Was playing GOW3 last night, graphics are amazing, the sense of scale is just brilliant, the violence is extreme (probably the most extreme ive seen in a game), and i have no idea what is going on...lol. It doesnt (unless i was just tired) do a very good job of explaining what is going on at the start for new players to the game (never played a GOW game before)... still i enjoyed it enough to want to go and get GOW1/2 and try and have a clue of am i good or bad, why Zeus is mad at me....etc. So cant wait to play it tonight :)
  • mfnick #23 2 years ago

    YES!!!

    Finally, my GoW3 has been despatched. About time, most people I know already have theirs :/
  • bad09 #24 2 years ago

    @ muscleblade

    Yes I know, you have a 360, now run along, play your 360. Under the bridge is just down there on the right.

    / couldn't care less as he has no 360
  • Atropos #25 2 years ago

    Uhm, aside from GoW3, the other obvious big hitter there is just kinda glossed over.

    KING'S BOUNTY FOR THE SAKE OF KRATOS !!!!

    ...though it's been out on Steam for ages, I suppose. Still, few games can keep me up until 5am on a work-day nowadays, but that little beauty did it for so many consecutive nights I had to take a sicky. First game related sick-day since Civ4.
  • muscleblade #26 2 years ago

    @bad09

    It was meant as a joke considering the discussion under the Metro review. Still true though but who knows if their right ;-)

    You should play Metro 2033 on your PC. Very good game no doubt.
  • harhol #27 2 years ago

    Patchwork Heroes is the obvious highlight.
  • Irien #28 2 years ago

    Is there an EG review due for Fragile? I appreciate it isn't a big hitter like GoW, but I'm rather more interested in hearing about these more obscure titles than more about stuff we all know about anyway (ie. GoW = good game, lots of gore, action and the odd boob).
  • NotSoSlim #29 2 years ago

    @muscleblade

    Fair enough! People who have played the previous 2 games know what to expect!
  • Xensor #30 2 years ago

    My pre-order was waiting on my doormat, Shopto ftw :)
  • GamesConnoisseur #31 2 years ago

    I too am looking forward to Tri-Crescendo latest- Fragile Dream but over at Metacritic, got some middling reviews and yet some praises on the styles and story.

    EG your review please?! As I m actually holding off on the purchase of the game.
