New PAL Releases Roundup - 12/06/09 News

PC PlayStation 2 PSP DS Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Tom Bramwell

12 June, 2009

Nintendo's Wii MotionPlus peripheral is finally out and about in shops today, courtesy of Electronic Arts' launch title Grand Slam Tennis, which was reviewed earlier this week. You can also check out our separate MotionPlus hands-on to see how it stacks up in GST and Tiger Woods 10.

Otherwise the big game of the week is Activision's Prototype, also reviewed, which turned out to be less like inFamous than expected, with a much greater emphasis on brawling compared to Sucker Punch's platform-and-shoot combo.

There's also Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings for Wii (review Monday), which includes a copy of legendary PC adventure Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, amazingly. We'd urge caution though, as adventure-lover Kristan isn't too impressed.

Elsewhere, it's a bumper week for digital downloads, thanks to a slew of Megadrive releases on Xbox Live Arcade and PSP downloads on PlayStation Network, although we're struggling to pick anything particularly exciting out of the line-up. VidZone launched too, allowing you to download music videos for free.

This week in shops:

  • EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis (Wii - including MotionPlus)
  • Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings (Wii, DS)
  • Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball (Wii)
  • Prototype (PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

This week online:

  • Altered Beast (Xbox Live Arcade)
  • Asphalt 4: Elite Racing (DSiWare)
  • Ape Academy 2 (PSP/PSN)
  • Cocoto Platform Jumper (WiiWare)
  • Comix Zone (Xbox Live Arcade)
  • Everybody's Golf 2 (PSP/PSN)
  • Gunstar Heroes (PS3/PSN, Xbox Live Arcade)
  • Phantasy Star II (Xbox Live Arcade)
  • Puzzle Quest: Galactrix (PS3/PSN)
  • Shinobi (Xbox Live Arcade)
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Xbox Live Arcade)
  • Sudoku 150! (DSiWare)
  • Super Smash Bros. (Wii Virtual Console - N64)
  • Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow (PSP/PSN)
  • VidZone (PS3/PSN - free)
  • WipEout Pulse (PSP/PSN)
  • Wolfenstein 3D (PS3/PSN)

Tried Altered Beast last night.

Sadly it's not quite as great as my memory led me to believe. I gave my brain a slap for lying to me.

How has Smash Bros. been released on the VC with such little fanfare?

Not to be rude Eurogamer...but don't you think it would have been wiser to have a review for Indiana Jones this week (as the game is now available)..and save the Ghostbusters review for next week when that game releases?

Gets very annoying only getting reviews after the game has been released.

Is Indy a Lego game? 7/10, there you go.

Maybe it's the fault of the manufacturers for not sending promo copy to EG, whereas Ghostbuster promo people got their act together and DID send a copy.... I may be wrong of course....

The Wii is not hardcore enough and does not deserve any reviews on time.

Indy is a 3rd person adventure with "realistic" graphics, no lego involved. Apparently 2 player co-op included. Probably 7/10 material though...

Possibly...although when Eurogamer don't even bother to give a hands-on E3 report on what's likely to be the biggest selling game of the year (Wii Sports Resort)...you can't help but think their efforts are lacking in regards to the Wii.

Wolfie 3D PSN is an essential purchase for me as I have only played the censored SNES version - in which all the nazi blokes have changed and the dogs are giant squeeking rats - I love it if only there was a map option on select

I just tried that VidZone. It 'ain't half bad actually, you can see straight away where the money is coming from (ads pop up during the vids) but beats paying for them on Live. I'm impressed Sony more of this less of Home, now where's that video store?
