New PAL Releases Roundup - 05/06/09

Red Faction! Sacred 2! Star Ocean!

Sacred 2: Fallen Angel launches on console this week. It's not the best of the batch, but I am in it. Yes I did a voiceover for the action-RPG whilst wearing a jester outfit. The only problem I'm having is finding myself. In-game, silly. Can anyone help? Answers on a postcard. Thanks!

Red Faction: Guerrilla turned out to be the "very definition of a solid 7/10". In other words, read our review before going to the shops - while The Sims 3 nudged closer to Sims Mecca.

Codemasters' racer FUEL fell short of the usual publisher pedigree, and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat may be the first New Play Control title to warrant a Wii remake. Our thoughts soon.

The Walk With Me game for DS comes with a pedometer add-on, and US flat-tummy trainer Jillian Michaels launches her Wii balance board game Fitness Ultimatum this week. She used to be fat but now she's thin, and she wants you to be happy too, because only thin people are happy and fulfilled. F*** off Jillian.

Final Fantasy VII heads to PS3 and PSP via the PlayStation Network, and our Star Ocean: The Last Hope review will be here next week.

This week in shops:

  • Sacred 2: Fallen Angel (PS3, Xbox 360)
  • FUEL (PS3, Xbox 360)
  • Red Faction: Guerrilla (PS3, Xbox 360)
  • Star Ocean: The Last Hope (Xbox 360)
  • New Play Control! Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (Wii)
  • Jillian Michaels' Fitness Ultimatum (Wii)
  • Walk With Me! Do You Know Your Walking Routine? (DS)
  • Ar Tonelico 2: Melody of Metafalica (PS2)
  • The Sims 3 (PC)

Out this week online:

  • Wolfenstein 3D (PS3, XBLA)
  • Trash Panic (PSN
  • Final Fantasy VII (PSN)
  • Final Fantasy VI: The After Years (WiiWare)
  • Art Style: Kubos (DSiWare)
  • Animal Crossing: Clock (DSiWare)
  • Animal Crossing: Calculator (DSiWare)

Ignore EG's 7 for Red Faction, it's easily an 8.5, if not more.

    How about a FFVII review?!

"In other words, read our review before going to the shops"

No! I'll buy what I want, when I want, without being dictated to! Good review though, I'm still having it.

There's a typo in the article.
"Final Fantasy VI: The After Years" should be Final Fantasy IV.

"She used to be fat but now she's thin, and she wants you to be happy too, because only thin people are happy and fulfilled."

Clearly not true. Fat people are fulfilled... Filled full of food!

The Wolf 3D XBLA version is utter crap. It's not just a lazy LAZY port (cheap menus ugly looking where only DPAD works and not the stick, for example), but they also managed to fuck up the game. You see, in Wolf3D you could HOLD spacebar and run alongside the walls to find secret entrances. Here you have to press A exactly on the square with the secret exit, how retarded is that???

You missed out Cellfactor as an online release (admittedly, so did Major Nelson)!

"F*** off Jillian" would be the best back-of-the-box quote evar.
  • penhalion #12 3 years ago

I got red faction and star ocean. Both will be traded for prototype next friday. I say this without actually having removed the packaging from either game yet!

Wolfenstien 3d was a poor offering, during the week of E3 thought we'd get something special, at least PSN owners got FF7 though.
  • fjharps #14 3 years ago

Star Ocean for me and already got FFVII also couldn't resist the idea of playing it on my psp
  • NotSoSlim #15 3 years ago

God i hate Star Ocean, poor game imo but £18 fro Zavvi
  • APHIZM #16 3 years ago

Still can't understand how Codemasters screwed up Fuel so badly, and how it got so highly rated by Edge.

"God i hate Star Ocean, poor game imo but £18 fro Zavvi".When did you pay this?I've just been to their site and they're asking £32.95!?

Wolf 3D on XBLA seems to be tied up to Wolf 360, like the Fable Pub games thing. Bought The game, 400msp, it's a good tip at my local restaurant, and it deserves about that. Fair enough. Still love the minimal music.

Nah i paid £18 it was listed wrong for a few weeks (look at bargain thread) its back at £32 now, i just cant get into the game to be honest
  • Drakron #21 3 years ago

    Star Ocean is ... different.

Its a Tri-ace game that just happens to be published by Square Enix, not a Square Enix game and so its a lot different that the usual "Final Fantasy" system.

And that will turn a lot of people off, not me since I knew what I was going to get.
  • NotSoSlim #22 3 years ago

Well i knew what it was, i just dont like it.
  • bad09 #23 3 years ago

I just broke my console boycott for FFVII. Damn, I'm weak that lasted like a month!

Couldn't help myself, it's been such a good E3 (apart from all the waggle) so I'm in a good mood and FFVII is the only cool FF game! :)

Is sacred 2 any good for the ps3? I've read some of the reviews and its not that highly rated although i'm a big rpg fan and still tempted to buy it. How does it play what would be a similar game to make a comparison with?
  • Roamer #26 3 years ago

Judging from the demo, Red Faction could be great. Love the fully destructible environment, especially in multiplayer. Sacred 2 is another one to watch if the co-op works as advertised - can't beat a multiplayer action rpg.
