New Mistwalker game coming to Wii

But what will The Last Story be about?

Mistwalker, the studio established by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, is working on a new game for the Wii.

That's according to a website which has just popped up. There's nothing much to see other than a fancy title image, the Wii logo and the unsurprising letters "RPG".

The game is called The Last Story, which doesn't come as much of a surprise either - Nintendo trademarked said name last September.

But back then we didn't know Mistwalker was involved, which is significant. After all, this is the studio set up by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi. Here's hoping more news will be revealed soon.

What the hell happened to Archaic Sealed Heat in the west?
Did it ever get published or was it too rubbish?

Interestingly, there's european trademark for "The Last Story & Nintendo Device".

So it looks it'll come with either a MotionPlus, the vitality sensor..or something else.

The Last Story? Another ultimatum Sakaguchi game, like Final Fantasy? If this is a success, we'll see The Last Story XIII 20 years from now.

Bah, just give me Lost Odysey 2.

So is that Mistwalker given up on the 360 market then in favour off them getting more sales from the Wii market?

Or is that me being cynical again?!

    More sales in Japan maybe?
  • Ignatius_Cheese #7 2 years ago

Couldn't they call it "The Last Daydream"...?

    If the shoe fits...

Mistwalker makes RPG's, RPG's sell the most hotcakes in Japan, Wii sells like hotcakes in Japan.

Yeah, makes sense. Dont think BD or LO did too great on the 360 for them either. No particularly surprising though - I bought both and although they werent that bad, they just couldnt hold my attention. Which was a pity as I love JRPG's.

    @ Callousb

Good spot. My bet is either a classic controller or, more likely, a motion plus.

Massive shame, I was hoping for a proper followup to Blue Dragon or a sequel to Lost Odyssey. Or an RPG on any other console other than the Wii.

"Wii sells like hotcakes in Japan."

Since the price drop, PS3 isn't doing that bad either. But of course Sakaguchi hates Sony (or was it Kutaragi?).
  • KDR_11k #15 2 years ago

Yeah, I think the 360 support was bought by Microsoft with fairly large moneyhats so going back to natural decision making would lead to more focus on other systems. The Wii has cheaper development due to lower graphics standards and I think Tales of Graces established the jRPG market for it so it's probably the way to go over the PS3 (DS would be bigger but I suppose that pool may have too many fishes in it already).

Sakaguchi hates Kutaragi. He did state this in one review some time ago. But he didn't say about Sony thought, so there might be a chance that Mistwalker will some day make a game for PS3 and/or PSP.
Of course I wouldn't get my hopes up for it.

Heh I was going to mention about Sakaguchi's hatred of Sony, and why we'd probably never see a Mistwalker game on the PS3.

Main reason JRPG's went exclusively on the Xbox 360 was to crack the western market, while MS benefitted in trying to crack the J market, PS3 while not spectacular in either market, seems a safer bet for both.

Except for "scheduled for sale 2010". And, I think, that the full page will be available in March.

Yeah, I think it was deemed too rubbish overall. Famitsu gave it 33/40 at the time though, wouldve been nice if someone gave it a chance over here!

    There's always import...... :)
