New Metallica album for GH3 on Friday

Same day as shops, plus exclusive tracks.

"Death Magnetic", the upcoming ninth studio album by Metallica, will launch simultaneously in Guitar Hero III and in shops this Friday.

Better still, the band has recorded two exclusive versions of single "Suicide & Redemption" for the game, each with extended guitar solos to panic along to.

Even better still, the entire "Death Magnetic" album will be forward-compatible with Guitar Hero World Tour, which launches this October.

That makes the 1440 Microsoft Points (GBP 12.20 / EUR 17.80) or USD 17.99 (Euro TBC) asking price rather more attractive.

The other tracks on the album are "That Was Just Your Life", "The End of the Line", "Broken, Beat & Scared", "The Day That Never Comes", "All Nightmare Long", "Cyanide", "The Unforgiven III", "The Judas Kiss", "My Apocalypse".

    @muftak:

    Trust me, this album is superb. It's like the last four/five albums don't exist :)

    I had completely lost faith in Metallica but this album is excellent. I would say it's like a cross between Ride the Lightning and ...And Justice For All.

    Edit: I say four/five because I actually quite enjoy the Black Album, despite it's commercialism. It's certainly no-where near as bad as Load or Reload and that piece of donkey turd St. Anger even if you're not fond of the Black Album :)

    The album is absolutely mindblowing. So theres no way in hell i'll miss out on these...
  • spammage #7 3 years ago

    Indeed, it is a brilliant album. ZOMG Metallica produce a good metal album shocker! A return to 6 minute + epic riff stuff should have your fingers dropping off in GH3 soon enough.
  • Klinjon #8 3 years ago

    This news was out yesterday...

    I'll definitely be getting this, Metallica are amazing.
  • Tweakmonkey #9 3 years ago

  • MKorkia #10 3 years ago

    Don't want it for GH3, want it for RB! *sulks*
  • Der_tolle_Emil #11 3 years ago

    This.

    Actually quite impressed with the album - thanks for the link Fab4.

    Couldn't agree more with farticus
  • Fab4 #14 3 years ago

    Its no Ultra Beatdown, that's for sure.
  • Tricky #15 3 years ago

    Bah. I still think people give Black too much of a hard time, but hey, you're always going to get that with the hardcore fans. So much so, that as soon as I see a hardcore fan of a band refer to something as being 'commercial' then I instantly take that as shorthand to mean that the album's actually full of some bloody good music :-P
  • thebaron #16 3 years ago

    Never really been into Metallica - prefer Dream Theater / Rush and other prog rock stuff but really do like Death Magnetic. I think they are trying to be more prog metal and take a leaf out of Dream Theater's book - lots of time changes - The Day That Never Comes is sheer quality.... In fact I really like it and am deffo gonna get this on GH3 - rock on Friday!
  • johnnybrn #17 3 years ago

    Ultra Beatdown is complete shit! - guitar wankery taken to the extreme

    What I'm looking forward to is the new Trivium album, who are the new Metallica

    As for DM its ok, still not as good a Master of Puppets etc but 100 times better than St. Anger
  • redneon Verified Programmer, SUMO Digital #18 3 years ago

    @johnnybrn:

    Fuck off are Trivium the new Metallica. Trivium have been completely commercial from the beginning. Excellent guitarists, don't get me wrong, but they're trying way too hard.

    Also, they lean ever so slightly in the emo direction which really REALLY pisses me off.

    /rant over.
  • johnnybrn #19 3 years ago

    redneon,

    Lol. Didnt mean to get you so worked up ;)

    I take your points about Trivium but...

    Metallica are a spent force having peaked in late 80's/early 90's and have nothing really orginal to offer anymore.

    Whereas Trivium are the young whipper-snappers who have a lot to prove, plus have the right sound and looks to take them to the top of the metal league (much to your displeasure!).

    I was hoping for more from Avenged Sevenfold but it appears that they have blown it

    Anyway music is a matter of taste isnt it
  • redneon Verified Programmer, SUMO Digital #20 3 years ago

    @johnnybrn:

    Aye. You're right, it is. I just don't like the amount of commercial metal around, these days. Avenge Sevenfold are another band that do my tits in ;)

    I tend to lean more towards black metal, death/melodic death metal bands these days. Amon Amarth, Hatesphere, Kalmah, The Haunted... that kind of thing.
  • JonFE #21 3 years ago

    Johnny, in my very humble opinion, Trivium are not fit to be even mentioned in the same sentence with Metallica ;)

    Metallica were pioneers, whereas Trivium are just followers... They have to *create* something before they can start proving anything.
  • Fab4 #22 3 years ago

    "Ultra Beatdown is complete shit! - guitar wankery taken to the extreme"

    Some people enjoy guitar wankery...difference in personal tastes...its what makes the world go round.
  • BiscuitBase #23 3 years ago

    Why do people always assume that commercial music automatically equals shit music?

    It's quite possible to be both commercial and awesome at the same time. Just take Girls Aloud for proof.
  • m0thr4 #24 3 years ago

    @redneon

    I remain to be convinced. I don't know why Metallica still bother to be honest. They had their day and did 3 great albums (Lightning, Puppets and Justice) that define 80's heavy metal. Now they're just old, tired, embarassing and 20 years behind the times.

    Plenty of better metal bands around who have bothered to move with the times.

    @Fab 4
    I don't think you'll find that is what makes the world go round. Has something to do with the moon I think and perhaps virgins and lots of string.
  • Carpathian #26 3 years ago

    the band has recorded two exclusive versions of single "Suicide & Redemption" for the game, each with extended guitar solos to panic along to

    I can has confused.

    That track wasn't a single, "The Day That Never Comes" was and even got a video. It's also a 10min+ instrumental that was already plastered with solos so extra extended ones seem a weird thing to add to it.

    I guess only time will tell!
  • paulf #27 3 years ago

    i remember the days when metallica were are the forefront of trying to destory digital distribution - now they are championing the cause (one major different they are gonna get paid) but this is just the start - shame you cant buy the game tracks with a version of the album that you could listen to without playing the game, but i guess thats the next step
  • StixxUK #28 3 years ago

    Trivium are good but will never be great.

    But that's beside the point.

    Death Magnetic is brilliant - kind of a more rock and roll version of the thrash stuff. I'll be getting it for GH rather than buying the CD.

    It's a bit pricey though.
  • captainrentboy #29 3 years ago

    Trivium are trying desperately to be the new Metallica, but I can't see it happening myself. From what songs I have heard off of their upcoming new album, it all sounds stupidly similar to their second one (Ascendency). The Crusade, whilst not bad in a 'sing along to whilst pissed' kind of way, was largely full of cheese, coupled with some staggeringly terrible lyrics and Matt's blatent ripping off of James Hetfield's singing style.
    Annnyway, this new Metallica album is actually pretty rocking, and thankfully we can all now pretend St Anger never happened :) As I've got 6000 odd points just hanging around on my marketplace (It's best you don't ask), I'll be downloading this bastard on Friday.
    Isn't 'Suicide and Redemption' the instrumental one? I can't see that being a single :/
  • Azazel #30 3 years ago

    Death Magnetic was indeed a pleasant surprise... I too had completely lost faith at the point of St Anger, but this one restores it quite a bit.
  • t8yman #31 3 years ago

    from metclub.com

    Each download contains two different versions of "Suicide & Redemption." One version is James only solo, and the other is Kirk only solo. The download will be forward compatible with Guitar Hero World Tour when it comes out in October.
  • StixxUK #32 3 years ago

    I think the article calling Suicide and Redemption a single was... incorrect. Well, apart from the fact it is a single song.
  • Fab4 #33 3 years ago

    "I don't think you'll find that is what makes the world go round. Has something to do with the moon I think."

    Well if you want to be pedantic about it, the Moon is the very last thing that will keep it spinning. The Earth is an object in motion, in a frictionless environment. The Moon's gravitational pull is the only thing that slows it down, but only by tiny, tiny amounts.

  • RustyBullet #34 3 years ago

    This is a great way to get this kind of music out in a diffrent way.
  • t8yman #35 3 years ago

    HMV have started selling the album today if anyone is interested.
  • Kafkaesque #36 3 years ago

    Whether you like 'Tallica's latest offering or not (gets a big thumbs up from me), it's fantastic to play. I deliberately didn't listen to it so my first taste would be playing it, went through online with a mate last night. My interest in GH has been diminshing for a while but this has got me right back into it \o/
