New maps for TF2 within two months News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Tom Bramwell

14 January, 2008

Valve is planning to release two more maps for Team Fortress 2 "within the next two months", according to TF2 superhero Robin Walker.

One is based on Team Fortress Classic's Badlands, he told Shacknews, and Valve expects to ship more content in the meantime.

Badlands is a pair of bases separated by cliffs and canyons, or at least it was in TFC. Or at least it was in TFC according to websites I found through Google. "This is a great map if there are not too many snipers," says a man who thinks blue text goes well on a black background. "I hate having to run across the level every time I get sniped!" Lols!

PC gamers can definitely look forward to those maps (although remember: Valve and release dates), but apparently Xbox 360 and PS3 versions have yet to be confirmed.

The stuff we'll be getting in the meantime should include the new Medic Achievement pack, along with a significant albeit unspecified gameplay tweak that Valve is going to trial with the Medic before hopefully introducing throughout the game.

Walker, who once took me to a Mexican restaurant, says that he's "really looking forward to the community reaction".

I need to get back into this. Looking forward to those additional achievements.

I wonder if the added gameplay element for the medic is disease as in TFC. As a medic I'd love it, not sure if the medic needs more though.

Doubt it disc, people wouldn't bother. More maps generates more interest which gets them more money anyway.

disc: Doubt it, I can't think of a previous occasion where Valve have charged for DLC.

Says it all about the quality of the gameplay when games like CoD4 and Halo 3 can get really stale, despite the larger number of maps and game variations. I 've been playing TF2 tons over the last few days, and played each map a seemingly infinite number of times, and it's not gotten even remotely less interesting at all.

The more maps the better though. If they are at least as good as the ones currently included then it's all good.

Doubt I'll even play these maps.. 2Forts, Dustbowl and Gravel Pit is all I need.

I only got around to playing Hydro for the first time this week. And I've had the game since release.

Some of the user created ones are already pretty good with some interesting ideas, played a CTF map last night with only one briefcase and the team capture point in the middle of the enemy base which i thought was pretty neat.

The quality of valves original maps means i'm really looking forward to a new batch of offical ones though.

I find the exact same thing, my friends are somewhat confused that I spend quite a lot of my time on a 24/7 2fort server, fact is I really do enjoy it. That's not to say I don't play a healthy bit on rotation servers too, but even those don't have have a vast array of maps.

TF2 is win really.

2months is quite a while, its really quite badly in need of some new maps. Im a huge hater of 2fort, and Well and Granary are dull as shit as far as Im concerned. Give us another 3 point map like granary please

Castle is a good community-made map as well.

I've been playing TF2 since the first day (or night, when it actually started working) of the beta and I've yet to get enough. There's no doubt in my mind that it's the "best" online multiplayer game ever due to its humor, style, and sheer depth of gameplay. I can't stop!

EDIT: I'm also really hesitant to be happy about gameplay changes like this. The thing I hated about TFC was the complicated nature of each class that made it too hard to work as a team, and the stupid medic disease and syringes that stuck on the floor were the worst.
