New King of Fighters coming in July News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Ellie Gibson

4 March, 2009

The next instalment in the King of Fighters series has been stamped with a global release date of July 2009.

The King of Fighters XII is in development for PS3 and Xbox 360. It will feature high-resolution fighters instead of the usual sprites, and we're promised fluid animations along with detailed, hand-drawn backgrounds.

According to SNK's Masaaki Kukino, the team's slogan during development has been "KOF Re-Birth" as their goal has been to completely overhaul the series.

"To make this a truly unique fighting game, we’ve revolutionised the graphics by creating state of the art visuals - and made no compromises in that process whatsoever," said Kukino. People DIED. Possibly.

Ignition Entertainment's Shaun Bettenhausen added, "While other fighting games have abandoned the time-consuming process of creating beautiful 2D art, KOFXII fully embraces the refined aesthetic beauty that only human hands can produce."

Have a look at the trailer and judge for yourself.

I only own one fighting game, and it's a KoF game. Just because it was one of the last N-Gage Console games in the shop, but it's alright I suppose.

I do especially love the art style of the series. I hope it does well.

Hopefully this means native 1080p resolution.

nice little jab at capcom about the 2D graphics. the game looks great even if the animation isn' on par with SFIII. with this and SFIV my taste for fighters has returned. need to pick VF5 again.

That sentence means absolutely nothing.

@ Rash: really? I get the impression that this KOF version has way better animation than SFIII. Ie: more animated frames. It really does look amazing.

I thought it was only announced for the PS3. I am hoping it comes to the 360 as i have a decent stick for mine.

Looks great... It's funny that the trailer emphasises "100% hand-drawn", a few years ago that would be bad marketing. It looks like 2D is the new 3D.

It does look lovely, and it should fill the void after SFIV nicely. If Capcom don't add lobbies before then, that is.

Thought SF VI was a bit to 3D-ish & didn't really like the zooming around when pulling off a special move/finish. Nice to see KOF remaining true to it's 2D routes & now bought to this gen consoles (except Wii - ha ha!). KoF has always been a better, deeper fighting game then all SF games. Better atmosphere, character choice & deeper game play!...Can't wait!
