But I hope the audio on characters is different. I haven't played Halo for long, but of the two hours or so of Halo 3 I played, it seemed that enemies had either a comical gruff voice that I've definitely heard the bad guys on Power Rangers using, or a comical squeaky voice that, er, I've definitely heard other bad guys on Power Rangers using.

Perhaps the crosshair was removed in some later editing for aesthetic effect... The red cross thing being off center and looking that thin really reminds me of some Wii FPSs - 'super fun' Natal mode? Let's hope not.

Natal headtracking was my guess when I saw that. There's several BIG discussions over on the Bungie site about why it's off-centre including the crosshair wobbling due to sprint perk or a placeholder waypoint or, indeed, Natal.

Not jackals apparently...new type of enemy called a skirmisher.
Well worth reading this month's Edge mag...they describe a demo of a couple of levels etc...a lot of the tweaks sound very good esp the way equipment is now basically a function of the armour you have on.

Hm, I guess the waypoint idea seems most viable really. The feelings I've gotten from other Halo: Reach news stories (I can't remember which) is that this is a bit of a 'best of' in terms of gameplay; that serves to hone and polish everything that Bungie has done so far without really breaking out and innovating. Like Twilight Princess was to the latest Zelda games.
That said, If Microsoft managed to persuade Bungie into putting a Natal mode in, it really would solidify their promise that Natal is for more than just netting casual gamers.
As for sprint mode - that could be interesting but really doesn't roll with my feel of Halo. Who knows!

The ground also seems a bit flat and bare but I'm hoping that thinkgs like grass and stones are added at the end once they can see how much performance they have spare.

Environments certainly seem a bit dull, but again they've actually said the game will start before the actual invasion, so as the game progresses you see the planet deterioriate.

The new, revised engine sounds promising too. I've always thought Halo games looked decent (though it was more art style, than detail), but it was about time they did something with the tech!
Any idea when the Beta is happening? Or what form it will take? Can't wait!

Try playing odst in blind mode. It totally turns the game on its heals and makes you enjoy the environment and sound design more. It plays so much better without the stupid hud. I'm a bit disappointed on a technical level of what I see in most of the environmental detail but the art design practically shut me up. I'm loving the enemy character models and just thinking about battling in those structures seen in some of the night screenshots with the dropship make me all glowy inside.

Do you mean without the VISR night vision thingy? Sounds interesting. I am struggling with it a bit on Legendry though (all those reviews that said it felt no different to playing as Master Chief obviously played on normal)! So I'll try that on an easier difficulty setting I think!
I must admit, I went and bought Halo 1 again today. Silent Cartographer. Best. Level Ever!

Halo was a great game on the original Xbox but its now nothing but a milked franchise that hasnt improved its gameplay in what 7 years?
Unless they make huge changes to how Reach plays then Bungie won't be getting any of my money.
