New Golden Axe game gets date

Beast Rider gallops to October.

SEGA plans to unleash PS3 and 360 action role-playing game Golden Axe: Beast Rider on 17th October.

Despite having initially been scheduled for September, we still know relatively little about this 2008 interpretation of a series that began in the arcades, back in 1989.

So far what we know comes from trailers; the lady warrior with barely any clothes appears to be the main character, and uses various types of beasts as mounts to get around and crush people with.

Golden Axe: Beast Rider will also carry an 18 rating for its assortment of blood and gore and dismemberments.

Head over to our Golden Axe: Beast Rider gamepage for the videos and screenshots released so far.

Anyone actually interested in this game?!

As much as I may regret it I think I'll be picking this up. The original is one of my fav games of all time. Spent many a happy hour slotting 10p's into that cabinet.

I am really interested in this one.....I hope the delay is due to fixing some stuff ;p from what I saw in developer diaries movies, game looked bad >.> but from trailers it looks great wtf! will need demo for this before purchase ~_~

anyone else read it as 'various types of breasts' ?

Dismemberments + giant beasts + boobs = I'm in. I just love those B-games, they're always fun and packed with interesting glitches and terrible voice acting.

Golden Axe needs 2-player co-op. That's scientific fact. Still, looks okayish. Like saku_luk said, demo first.

I'd say the chances of this being good are...

... very, very slim! I'd love to be wrong but given how close the release date is and how little we've heard about the game in the form of previews, etc., my gut instinct tells me I'll likely be right. Perhaps it'll be a surprise gem of a game but I certainly won't be holding my proverbial breath for it... ;)

    Funkstar - I did.

    I predict this being a 5/10 snorefest.

Well, as long as it is as good as Conan and better than Viking, I am in. Like somebody else said, these sort of B-tier games can be relied on for shitty voice-acting and mildly enthralling gameplay.

I, too, spent an inordinate amount of my youth playing the original coin-op, but this remake does nothing for me. We all know why they chose the amazon as the character for this game, but it doesn't seem like Golden Axe without the barbarian and the dwarf.

I look forward to this as much as I did the Altered Beast remake.

I'd written this off but after watching some stuff on EGTV I think this looks pretty damn awesome, reminds me of Conan only with mounts, I'll wait for a demo and/or reviews but I'm actually quite interested in this now.

Shame there's no local co-op though.

i remember playing the original of this i thought it was awesome non stop fun and dont u get to play the shitty little dwarf or the blonde haired axe man

No Local co op = massive fail.

I am very intrested none the less.

Wouldn't it be ironic if this was actually better than Heavenly Sword? *grins*

The achievements are out and consist of the following.

Beat Game - Lots of Points
Clear All Levels with Sword Only - Lots of Points
Clear All Levels with A+ Rank - Lots of Points
Clear All Trials (60 enemy waves) - Lots of Points
Kick Gnomes - Lots of Points

The demo from E3 looked alright actually! Quite fast. Lots of running around and chopping/riding. You might ask "who would pay £40 quid for this in 2008"... but I have a Master System copy of Golden Axe which still has the £49.99 price tag on it! And the game could be beat in 20 minutes!

That cost £50 twenty years ago?! That's probably why I was only allowed a CPC 464. I remember loving the original Golden Axe too, I'd kinda like to see a new version of it that's a really complex, side scrolling, fighter.

I'm still really interested in this.

So has everyone made up after the Sega America CEO himself slagged off Secret Level's produce?
  • The-Bodybuilder #21 3 years ago

    Oh sega.
How great you once were. The dreamcast era is long forgotten, and now this empty shell of a publisher is here, masquarding as sega.

Judging from the screenshots Sega is finally getting serious about the Golden Axe franchise again.
The sequels all sucked and the PS2 3D remake was nothing more than a bad joke.
  • aids #23 3 years ago

If only they could re-do the classic side-scroller but update the graphics, like Prince of Persia Classic on XBLA.

It seems that people are pretty pessimistic about this - I cant say I blame them but wouldn't it be great if this delivered?? I doubt it will but its possible. No one thought that Metroid could go 3D but that was a success. Then again mmmmmmm yeah this 'll probably just be a disappointment but God I loved it in the arcade.

Sorry but if I cant choose between Barabarian. Amazon and Dwarf at the start of the game then you can fuck off.
Who needs another God of War a-like game, branded with a name they are leasing from Sega? with a generic 'Kevlar-lingerie' clad bimbo to appeased the undersexed 'Scary Internet Men'.
Original Golden Axe was awesome, but please someone tell me how this game will feel like Goldenaxe?
because I hit enemies with weapons and do magic? get to ride around on weird chicken monsters?
