New Gears maps go live News

Xbox 360 News by Tom Bramwell

3 May, 2007

As promised, the Gears of War "Hidden Fronts" multiplayer map pack has pitched up on Xbox Live Marketplace.

Be prepared to put your feet up while they race down your pipe though, as there's 230.32MB of data to gather, compared to just under 100 in the first multiplayer pack.

The bundle, which consists of four new battlegrounds, will cost you 800 Microsoft points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.30) if you buy it between now and 3rd September, after which it will be free to download.

You can see what the four maps look like in our Hidden Fronts screenshot gallery.

For the record though, Bullet Marsh is described as a Kryll-infested swamp, Garden's built around a pesticidal greenhouse that kills you if you don't vent the air first, Process is about fighting over an Imulsion processing plant, and Subway is a former commuter hub currently home to Locust nasties.

For more on Gears of War, including a complete guide to Cog Tag locations, hit up our Gears of War gamepage.

Oh, and do be sure to let us know what you make of the maps.

Nice that they're being offered free after three months a la Halo 2, makes it all the more bearable for people who think it's too expensive.

Using Firefox and OSX, above the comment box on every article it says:

"Comment on this article.PLEASE"

Is this not displaying correctly for me, or are you just desperately begging for comments?

edit: with Safari too.

Just realised it's four months actually but the point is that they'll be free for those who choose to wait. I suspect Gears of War's online lifespan will be years anyway, like Halo 2, so it surely pays (or rather doesn't!) to wait and get 'em free?

I would have been tempted, but I know for sure that most of the popele I play with won't be buying them, and I really don't think I could stomach another forray into the Live abyss to try and find another decent bunch who have the new maps.

/too busy trying to 5* hard on Guitar Hero anyway

7 quid sounds like quite a lot of cash for 4 maps.

I think I'd wait until September if I had Gears. And a 360. And internet access at home.

Same here, and has been for at least the last day or so. My thinking is that maybe they've not had enough "Better than Halo?" or "8/10" comments, and that they are having to resort to begging in capital letters for more...
