New Football Manager 2008 demo

Now available on Xbox Live.

A new demo of Football Manager 2008 has popped up on Xbox Live.

At least, it's definitely on Xbox Live UK, as we just checked - but according to Major Nelson the demo is not available in Austria, Asia, Germany or North America.

It weighs in at 263MB and lets you play half a season in 14 countries.

Football Manager 2008 was released on Xbox 360 last Friday, and on Mac, PC and PSP last year.

Wish this had actually come out before the (effective) end of the season. Got it on the PC and have got to about 2015, but I'm a slut for gamerpoints...the dilemna

When's someone going to write a new football or simulation game?

Isn't everyone just sick of these FIFA, PES, FM sequels yet?

Can a developer be daring enough to come up with some new IP please?!

The interface is really clunky and doesn't feel right at all.

I downloaded this last night but, boy, it is dull or what... it's like playing around with an Excel spreadsheet, only not as fun. Presentation is so bland and the interface is as clunky as hell and laborious to navigate. Seems more suited to a PC than a console to me...

Downloaded last night (I play FM07 on PC religiously) and I stopped short of actually going in and playing when I found the completely shit first screen (front-end, select new game or preferences) only worked with my left analogue stick. I mean wtf! Is that really the case or is my controller borked? I cannot believe that it would only read the stick and not d-pad.

Okay, so I try selecting preferences (a simple right movement with the stick) and it doesn't respond. Try it a few more times and it pings right, left, right, left. Jesus christ.

Who lets this kind of thing through?

First time I've played a console FM/CM apart from the PSP version, and I have to say I really didn't like it at all.

The interface is downright awful and un user-friendly, the writing is tiny even while playing in HD, and my suspicions have been confirmed that the whole 'CM/FM' thing plain dosn't work while playing on a console.
I understand there are those that can see the benefit of playing it while lounging on the sofa. But I seriously question playing a game like this on HD tellies that can be prone to burn-in, on a console which has no screensaver. Controlling the interface with a controller just felt completely wrong and awkward as well.

Best off for laptops imo, and not on a next-gen console.

The other FM games on 360 have had quite positive reviews, and I was looking forward to this one because of that. Anyone in a position to have played previous 360 FM games?

well, sorry, this has put me off console FMs for a long time. Having played CM/FM on PC for several years now, I just plain hated the controller interface. I'm sure it'll be ok once u know it inside out, but I'm not interested when it take me more than one try to make a profile. Mouse and Keyboard triumphs again!
