New DLC announced for Burnout Paradise
Cops and Robbers pack on the way.
Criterion has announced yet another premium pack of downloadable content for Burnout Paradise.
The developer's website says you need to check out the Criterion Games Network via PC or PS3 to find out more.
But for those who have the Xbox 360 version of the game (which doesn't allow you to access the CGN), or just can't be bothered - the new pack is titled Cops and Robbers. Screenshots are due to appear on the site and on the PlayStation blog today, but there's no sign as yet.
The news comes just days after Criterion released the Burnout Paradise Ultimate Bundle. It's available via the PlayStation Store or EA's website, priced at GBP 29.99. For that you get the full game, all the free updates and the new Party Pack.

Release the Party Pack unlock a day before the update to the game code, so people buy 800 points of stuff they can't play for a day? Check.
Release teaser information that only non-360 owners of the game can read? Check.
I love BP but really, stop bending us over Criterion. You'll make more money that way.

Whuh? The game itself is identical on both systems, don't want/need a web browser in my racing game, it just annoys me that every decision Criterion seem to make fucks over 360 owners. Why not release cops-and-robbers info on NXE as well as the Playstation Blog? WTF are EA, a multiplatform company, cosying up to Sony so much on this multiplatform title?

Check the face off, they're identical.
"Sorry, how are you being 'fucked over'? As for 'every decision' - is that total now at a massive... 2 decisions? "
Well the 360 had the Bogart patch screw the game's visuals for a good few weeks before they fixed that, the Bikes pack was also delayed on the 360. So that's four now; What would you classify buying an add-on that you can't even use for 24 hours on the 360 despite the PS3 and PC owners already having the udpate as? What would you classify sending out "special bonus information" to two of your platforms but ignoring the third as?
I love BP and I love what Criterion's doing but I'm having a lot of trouble thinking of a post-release event where they haven't managed to spit in the 360 owner's face. Can you come up with one?

As others have said, 99% of the time Xbox owners get the best deal when it comes to multi-platform shenanigans, so while it's fair enough to be disappointed, there's no need to throw your toys out of the pram.

As far as I can find from Google, Cagney was delayed because of MS certification process, no? Not (always) something that is within a developers control. I do not recall the Bogart patch screwing up my BoP visuals for a number of weeks - what was that again? I'd classify not being able to use an add-on for 24 hours 'pre-loading' since the 1.6 patch didn't land until the next day - which it obviously needs to function. Would you have still complained if they had just put the Party Pack patch up the same day as the 1.6 patch? Probably. As for the 'special bonus information' - isn't that because the 360 doesn't have a browser?

What is worth discussing is Criterion's excellent post-release support for Burnout Paradise. Sadly I don't think it will catch on in the console space, but kudos to them for trying.

Don't get too miffed, it's still lovely on the 360 too and the 360 gets marginally better graphics on most other games. The PS3 is bound to sometimes have better graphics for some cross-platform titles, and Burnout Paradise is one of them.
Would it be better if I put my words in bold, and only then will what I'm saying be fact?
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Well luckily I don't need to trust you on this one, I can just look at the screenshots from the Face Off and notice they look identical.
"then will what I'm saying be fact?
It'll help if what you're saying is infact fact backed up by evidence rather than your "I cut the lead developer's hair!"argument from authority.
"Try being a PC owner."
Ugh, I was for ages.
"99% of the time Xbox owners get the best deal when it comes to multi-platform shenanigans,"
But at least they're actual shnanigans, such as cross-platform dunderheadedness or paid exclusive content. Criterion's just seems to be straight-up meanness.
"lol... if that's what you class as being fucked over, I dread to think what you're like in a real crisis! "
Thanks for telling me how annoyed I'm allowed to be.
"Cagney was delayed because of MS certification process, no? Not (always) something that is within a developers control."
Pfft, they just didn't CARE. Their beloved PS3 update of Cagney worked just fine.
" I do not recall the Bogart patch screwing up my BoP visuals for a number of weeks - what was that again?"
Jeez, it was a year ago and definitely screwed up a lot of people's visuals, google it, "works on my machine" isn't really an excuse here.
" I'd classify not being able to use an add-on for 24 hours 'pre-loading' since the 1.6 patch didn't land until the next day"
I'd classify it as a screwup at best, but considering the freqency Criterion "screw up" for 360 owners compared to PS3 owners It's getting really hard now to write it off as accidental.
"Would you have still complained if they had just put the Party Pack patch up the same day as the 1.6 patch? Probably."
(Sigh) As you appear to be in a position to tell me not only how annoyed I'm allowed to be but what I will do in any hypothetical situation, could you let me know why I'd complain?
" As for the 'special bonus information' - isn't that because the 360 doesn't have a browser? "
It's got a perfectly good NXE that they could have released the information in. Or that could have stopped dorking around and released it on their website.
Can you explain why as a 360 owner I have to go to a Sony blog to get information on Burnout Paradise for the 360?
Would PS3 owners be happy getting information on (say) Rock Band through Major Nelson's blog?

It's how they're acting, isn't it? If I didn't love BP so much or if it was just an isolated incident it wouldn't bother me one iota.
@Chessboxer: Your mum's so bad at games, she's been shunting the Coastguard hut in BP since March. She's so bad, right, she didn't even secretly want the restart feature.
It's alright to say that now right? Now it's in, we can stop pretending we secretly didn't crave restart. It doesn't make those idiots who didn't buy it because it didn't have restart for a year right though.

The graphics are fantastic and look the same as the PS3s. The frame rate is the same also. If there's any marginal improvement on the PS3 version then it's ever so slight, and is due to the PS3 being the lead platform.
The missing info from the 360 version is due to there being no web browser. Consider yourself lucky that you have Xbox live to make up for it.
That's all, thanxverymuch.

Slight? It's downright homeopathic - it looks and sounds the same, same framerate, same resolution, same effects, same everything. Seriously EG did a faceoff about this and everything. It's like GTA, PS3 owners will swear up and down the PS3 framerate is better when it's actually substantially worse when measured.
